I've had CD only about 3 years. Was diagnosed in terminal ileum. Now flaring - awful D and tenderness (no sharp pain). Had CT with dye/contrast. Am told that my original site of disease looks "well resolved" but colon is "inflamed and thickened."

Thoughts? Does this sound normal for CD? I thought it was more about small intestine....live and learn I guess.

(Starting to feel better on Pred, but still can't eat)
Official dx September 2007.
currently flaring (June 2010) with colitis
Medications: Pentasa, Omeprazole, Prednisone, 6MP
History of hypothyroid (dx 2004, take Levoxyl), and gall bladder surgery (1997).
47 years old; single mom to three wonderful kids, ages 12 to 18.

When I first got sick with CD 19 yrs ago, it started on my anus with severe issues with perianal crohn's skin tags and quickly affected me internally in the rectom, colon and small intestines for a couple of yrs before it subsided in the small intestines, comes and goes in the rectom, permanant on the anus with the anal tags and constant the entire 19 yrs in the colon...CD can do what it wants and it usually does, there is no rhyme or reason...and for many patients only their colons can be affected, never experiancing any issues in the small intestines.
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.

that is what happened to me - diagnosed in the ileum but about 6 months later AFTER being on high doses of prednisone it jumped to the sigmoid colon/anus/rectum. it can do that. the disease takes no prisoners.

dragonfly -- This may sound like a stupid question but how did you find out about the skin tags -- discover them yourself or did your doctor tell you?

Looking back, I think my disease started at the ileum. I got symptoms of it from there that came and went. Finally it moved at the sigmoid colon/anus/rectum like CrazyHarry and that is when I got diagnosed. It's pretty obvious there!! The tests showed it in both places. Now I have the ileum under control, but the last 2 inches of my colon are a danger zone.
45 years old. Diagnosed with moderate to severe Crohn's in April 2005. Hiatus hernia diagnosed in 2008. Had Crohn's under control until March last year when I had a major flare up and ended up in hospital. Diagnosis is now CD and IBS. Getting it under control again.
Currently taking: Salofalk 2000 mg, Nexium, Calcium and Vitamin D, Matamucil, Yogurt for probiotics, Salofalk suppositories as needed.

I have perianal crohn's skin tags as well, infact for me, that's where my disease started when I was a teen (shortly after going on birth control pills) it's just that at that time I had absolutely no other symptoms (pooped normal, once a day, everyday)...and my anal skin tags would come and go on their own randomly and weren't too much of a bother...everytime I went for my physicals, if my tags happend to be there, docs would comment on them being hemheroides and of course I didn't know any better (thought doctors new everything, boy was I wrong)...

Then after I had my first baby about a yr later my skin tags went crazy with pain, shortly after that the internal issues started, then I was DX with CD (of course before that I went in for emergency hemheroidectomy on my tags) which the doc banded them while they were in a flare, BIG MISTAKE!

The skin tags I was having severe itching and the area between my vagina and anus were severely swollen so the next time I saw my colorectal surgeon he diagnosed them as the skin tags and told me if they are really that bothersome we can do surgery although it isnt the best idea if they are tolerable. I have a couple now and my current GI says I should just use a bidet(sp?) or the wet wipes to clean after a BM and not use dry TP

Now you guys have me TOTALLY CORN-FUSED!!! I thought skin tags, at least the external ones, were remnants of dried up hemorrhoids.

So what the hay are skin tags, really? Especially internal skin tags?
