I thought skin tags, at least the external ones, were remnants of dried up hemorrhoids.

So what the hay are skin tags, really? Especially internal skin tags?

I have an external tag. It's like an extra clump of skin. Gross and at times hard to keep clean. My rectal surgeon took a look (I thought it was a hemmie so I made an appt.); she said it's a "classic Crohn's skin tag". She didn't do anything to/with it and stated that messing with them can make things worse (although that's just one Dr's opinion). Sooooo......I'm stuck with an uninvited guest down there.

I'm more curious about the difference in appearance between the internal and external skin tags to be truthful. The external just look like extra "tags" of skin, but I have one internal and it is a repulsive, ugly looking thing in its picture.

My mom in her later years had what looked like skin tags and what I thought were skin tags that grew on her cheek on her face. Doctor removed one but two more later cropped up.
I had one polyp one time and at least it was interesting. It really did look like a Christmas tree shaped mushroom on a stem.
