Hi everyone-
I have done a search of the forum and found some topics on allergy injections, but in the forum allergies, not in the Crohn's forum.

I have taken 4 shots for allergies for two years, once a week... then maintenance of SEVEN years, 4 shots once a month. I retested for allergies last week....and my allergies were WORSE, the levels higher and more allergens. (and I was on 30 MG of pred?) I am allergic to all grasses, dogs (i have three- and show and train dogs!) molds, trees, etc. We have hepa filters on everything, UV lights in the ACs --- etc. I have no food allergies, some drug allergies.

With my newly dx Crohns, - that is one fact of my medical history I had forgotten to tell. I just think of it as daily life and should have mentioned but didn't...this is all overwhelming and I was so sick.

My appointment with the GI yesterday--- I told her about the shots. Her "personal feeling" was that she did not believe in them and she actually was going to talk to a researcher at UM about it, because she said, the allergy shots could have contributed to my autoimmune of CD and RA.  She said it was my decision if I wanted to continue. Of course, the allergist is saying, I HAVE TO CONTINUE. yes- I do believe I have relief of my symptoms... but is it from the shots? or did I finally grow out of it?

So, then I talked to my dog's vet today (she is a friend and combines conventional veterinary meds with holistic and western chinese) Her opinion- friend to friend... was that the gut and intestines are such a large part of my body functions, (my allergies are all above neck.... ) she treats Crohns in dog's of course... she said, she would not take the shots anymore. She said I am introducing more into my body and to take a break from them.

So- the question.... is anyone taking allergy injections with a dx of CD and RA?

I do not take allergy shots now, but I did ALOT as a child and I developed Crohns at 18. That and my starting smoking at an early age are possible causes of my Crohns. JMHO

That is interesting, I took weekly allergy injections from the time I was in Jr High until I got married in 2000, could not afford the shots on my own, got my dx in 2008 tho. I've been retested in 2006 and was told I didn't need to be on shots anymore.

I took weekly injections as a child thru my late teens. Then restarted them in my 30's-early 40's. Probably had 30 years or so of shots. I developed UC in my early 40's and now possible crohns in my 50's. I always wondered if the shots had anything to do with anything.

Thanks everyone-- WOW- I guess the damage is done. But, I have made a decision to stop the shots now.... interesting thought though isn't it??

My GI is all over it--I am going to get my records from the allergist for her...because they are researching it at university of Miami--

I use to get allergy shots ( actually in 2 different times in my life) I was in high school back when I had them the 1st time and I would have to remain in the office 30 min after getting the shots in case of reaction. One day I did have a reaction and the Dr placed me on pred fora short time I asked if I would have to taper off of them as I do for my disease which he followed by saying what disease then said if i was in a flare I shouldnt get the shot...this allergy Doc was the top 1 in the state and I ALWAYS mention my CD....

I started getting shots again back when I worked for the veterinarian since I am allergic to animals (i know how silly of me)...My PCP said either start shots again or get a new job so they did labwork b4 the scratch test to try and minimize how many scratches they would have to do which also showed that for the 1st time in my life I was now allergic to peanuts...and I use to have creamy PB on toast etc when in a flare..not anymore...I did mention to them about the thing my Dr in the past mentioned about if I am in a flare they said they had never heard of such a thing...I never noticed any flares from the shots and I am not too sure they worked to aid my allergies either

Yep, I took allergy shots too for 11 years. It's been a long time ago. Hummmm....... Yea, I don't believe in them either. NO telling what all we got exposed to and made antibodies to. It's just unnatural and I sure regret getting them. I am still allergic to stuff too.

Now, I have quite a few auto immune diseases going on.
d 1/09 with colitis sigmoid colon with some diverticular disease as well
IBS, asthma/allergies, high BP, fibromyalgia, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease
claritin, singulair, diovan, progesterone, VSL#3 probiotic, Vit. D, colazal, plaquenil back on cymbalta for pain, nexium for reflux, wellbutrin
Blood test positive for Crohn's via prometheus ibd serology panel ASCA
Positive ANA
Collitis doing OK for now, it's fatigue and joint pain that are plagueing me right now!!!
