I rarely post on the Crohn's board, but this has piqued my interest. I'm just curious as to what exactly you think propolis does for your in relation to your Crohn's.

I read something the other day about a doctor who had a patient who successfully treated her (UC? CD?- can't remember) and remembered seeing it in your sigline.

Hi Levi,

The bee propolis stopped all my severe lower back pain and bleeding (by the next day after taking 1 cap twice/day), soon after that it cut my BM's in about half of what I was going (was going 30+times/day, cut down to 15/day at the time), it also cut back some of the mucus which many of my BM's consisted of only. My GI told me to stick with it since it's 100% non-toxic (doesn't build up in your system)...avoid it if your allergic to bees though.

I still take it daily (same dosage as mentioned above) and I have since added other things (listed in my sig). The reason I tried it was because another member at another support board mentioned it put him into full remission and no longer had to take it..of course it's different for everyone..good luck!
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Great. I was thinking I had read that it helped you with the blood in an old post. That would be great for me, as I bled daily for two and a half years with no other symptoms before being diagnosed last year.
Thanks for the info!
I just started taking Propolis Friday night. PB4, have you tried increasing your dose from the 1 cap / 2x a day? If so, did you notice any improvement?
I am starting out with 2 caps / 2x a day and plan on going to 1 cap / 2x a day after a few days.
Feeling the best I have in several years! And it keeps getting better!
4mg LDN at bedtime, 500mg Pentasa 3x/day, 1,000 I/U Vitamin D3 2x/day, 1 Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri in the morning and 1 at bed time, 1 Coromega Omega 3 pack 2x/day
----------------------------------------------
Medication prior to taking LDN: 100 mg Imuran a day (GI wanted 150 mg), 1,000 mg of Pentasa 4x/day, 3 mg of Entocort 3x/day, Librax as needed.
Hi CrohnieMan, sorry it took so long to reply to to, been super busy lately....
I initially started taking bee propolis in liquid form, for about 2-3 months before I weaned onto the caps (liquid absorbs better/faster in the system) initially when I moved onto the caps I did take 2 pills 2X/day, after about 6 months I dropped it down to 1 pill 2X/day and never noticed any difference (as in I didn't feel any worse) so I figured maybe I was wasting them by taking 2 caps 2X/day. BTW, the liquid tasted absolutely horrible but it was worth it, also when I weaned myself onto the caps things stayed at the same improvement level as well.
You might want to give it a bit more than just a few days (I would if it was me) I'd go at 2 caps 2X/day for at least a month or 2....good luck I hope you find relief...and I'm glad to see you're taking probiotics as well, I highely recommend you add vitamin D3 and vitamin C-calcium Ascorbate (there's been research done showing they both seem to aid with CD...if you google crohn's and vitamin C and crohn's and vitamin D, you'll come across great info.
Thanks pb4. I will give it more time (at least a month or more). I am feeling more gassy since I've taken it so I am hoping it is helping the fight against bad bacteria in the gut.
I have been alternating between the Nature's Way Reuteri & Fortify ever few months because it seems like I feel worse. Then switching helps with the BMs some.
I am taking 2,000 i/u of vitamin d3 a day, but not vitamin c-calcium ascorbate. I have some vitamin c, but not the calcium ascorbate.
4mg LDN- 1x a day
500mg Pentasa - 3x a day
1,000 I/U Vitamin D3 - 2x a day
Nature's Way Primadophilus Reuteri -1 cap 2x a day
Coromega Omega 3 - 2x a day
500mg Propolis 2 caps - 2x a day
----------------------------------------------
Just make sure you're not allergic to bees! My GI encouraged me to continue with it, he was happy it was helping as much as it does and assured me that it's 100% non-toxic so there's no build up of it in the system...good luck! Also just want to put it out there for anyone else that may be thinking about trying it, pregnant and breast feeding women should also avoid it and caution to anyone under 18 yrs of age is on it as well.
