Hi guys, as some of you may know I will probably be moving on from Remicade to Humira or Cimzia.  I'm due for an infusion in 5 days and I am in extreme pain of the abdomen so I think I'm going to get my next infusion and work on switching for next time.  My question is if I get my infusion every 6 weeks how long do I have to wait to switch to the next med?  If I have any time inbetween I know this is going to be miserable and I don't think I will be able to work like this.  Thanks in advance.  Stephanie
Current meds:  Remicade

You won't like this but there will need to be some time between the switch. Ask about prednisone for the inbetween time.

Thats going to be a problem. I had severe myopathy on prednisone. Guess I will have to discuss this with the dr. Thank you.

When I switched from Remicade to Humira there was no long period of time in between the switch. I started my Humira at the time I would have been due for my next Remi infusion. There was no problem with this at all. I was getting remicade every 6 weeks (like you) and at the end of the 6 weeks, I just took the humira shots instead of the infusion. Good luck with your switch! I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

I switched from Humira to Remicade, I think there was 2 weeks in between - not long.

Stef17: I think I'm like you and they know any time between medicine could cause a huge flare up. I only have a few days left to get my next infusion and I've been contemplating the ER due to severe pain. I will have to discuss this with my dr. He's reluctant of pulling me off Remicade bc its working so well. But the joint pain is also debilitating as well, like I can barely walk sometimes. But we don't know if thats just me or the Remi side effects. Nothing is showing up in the bloodwork, so were leaning towards Remi. But it does work extremely well for my guts, so I'm scared to change. Hopefully, he will just give me the humira or cimzia the next time I'm due for an infusion. So hows humira working for u guys?

Humira is not working for me the way that remicade did. But I was on remicade for 6+ years. It lost it's effectiveness on me. I have both CD and RA, so the remicade was a lifesaver for both. I'm so sorry you're dealing with joint pain. If it weren't for that, I would tell you to stay on the remicade. I seem to have worse joint pain since going to humira, but I am chalking that up to humira not working so well on my RA. Humira is OK for me, but not great. That being said, I'm not sure that any of the biologics will ever do for me again what remicade did the first 3-4 years. Maybe once you build up a certain level of anitbodies the others will be mediocre at best. I don't know. I've been on Humira 2 years and I'm not quite ready to give up yet. I hope you have a lot of success with it.

I know that concerns me as well. I'm scared the joint pain is going to get worse on sumthing else. Do you work stef? I was able to go back after the remicade and I feel like if Humira or Cimzia doesn't work I wont be able to. And thats my health ins. and only way to survive. I don't want to mess anything up, but feel like I will never know if the leg pain is just remi if i don't switch. Maybe they can put me back on Remi? I know that is against the rules, but they do it sometimes. IDK my dr is very "by the rules" kinda dr. Did u try Cimzia yet? I know my Rheumy is leaning towards that one.

I was getting Remicade every 6 weeks when I stopped it and just had to wait the normal 6 weeks before switching to Cimzia.  I have since switched to Humira, back to Cimzia and am now in the process of switching back to Humira and have always just had to wait the normal amount of time that you go in between injections.

Crohn's Disease, Acid Reflux/Gastritis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Endometriosis, Arthritis, Depression/Anxiety.  Too many meds to list them all.  =)
