They had a story about a young woman today on the doctors who had stomach problems for quite a long time. She saw doctors and they told her it was IBS. Sounds like she had seen quite a few doctors too. Apparently, she was in a class and got her biopsy slides and found an area of granuloma/inflammation in her own biopsy that the pathologists had missed!!!! She had crohn's disease! This doesn't make me feel so good. I wonder if she just took a closer, longer look at her own slides than a pathologist would.

I think this is the same young woman who was featured in several newspaper stories (and on cnn.com) a few months ago. Initially they suspected IBS, but after colonoscopy they actually knew she had IDB - they just didn't know whether to call it UC or Crohn's. She did indeed find a granuloma in one of her biopsies that had been overlooked, thus confirming her IBD is Crohn's and not UC.

Am I the only one who finds this disturbing???? LOL..... On Oprah, unless I misunderstood, they said IBS. I didn't see that story. I guess if you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself!! I am a former lab person myself and feel like getting my colon biopsy slides sent to someone I know so they are well screened. My blood test says crohn's and so far the biopsies say garden variety inflammation and visible redness. I wonder how many docs this poor girl had been to? Ok, off my soap box. I am gonna google it to see if I can get the full story. Thanks beave!!!
