so my two weeks of bliss are over... I had a life back and now back to the beginning..On sunday I had terrible stomach pains, thought it might be the prednisone..monday felt vomity but nothing severe.. tuesday morning woke up vomiting, extreme stomach pain.. husband took me to er..pancreatitis.. admitted right away.. still here..maybe tomorrow.. feel like crap. They are taking me off the imuran so now I have no idea what will happen next.. my gi is on vacation ...hubby is going to call mayo and see what their take is.

I tell you .. pancreatitis is no fun..the pain alone is horrible..
frustrated.. anyone been here.. done this.. any advice???

thanks

I'm so sorry. I've heard that pancreatitis is one of the most painful illnesses there are.

We do have a few people here who have had Imuran cause pancreatitis. I can't remember their names, though.

I hope the hospital is giving you adequate pain relief, and generally treating you kindly.

Yet another CDer hit with this pancreatitus. I have been told by the doc that I am never to touch alcohol again. I was never a heavy drinker but man I could use a beer once in a while. Immuran gave me the pancreatitis also. Now I am on Remicade. So far it is helping me quite a bit. Good Luck

Oh I am so sorry that you have to go through this sort of pain it must be very frustrating for you to have to look at trying new meds. again.. Can I ask how long were you on the Imuran before this happened? I am taking Imuran 150mg (started out at 50mg for the first month and have been on 150mg for the past 3 weeks) I hope I dont end up down the same path! I hear that pancreatitis is very, very painful. I hope you start to feel a little better soon.

I got pancreatitis after having a test done on my liver and it was the worst pain I've ever felt, so I completely understand what you are going through.  Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to get through it quicker except for not eating or drinking anything.  The first day wasn't bad because I wasn't hungry (although I was really thirsty), but by the end of the second day, I was SOOO hungry and couldn't have anything.  By the time I was allowed popsicles the evening of the 3rd day, I was so hungry that I kept asking the nurses for more and more popsicles.  I hope you are able to get your numbers down and get out of there soon!

Crohn's Disease, Acid Reflux/Gastritis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Endometriosis, Arthritis, Depression/Anxiety.  Too many meds to list them all.  =)

Ouchy, ouch, ouch, ouch. So sorry you had to experience that, hopefully they will find another med for you soon. Hugs!

thanks to all... this sucks...and yes the pain is horrible..

Imuran - only two weeks.. was on 150mg I am off of that for good.
First day they didn't feed me, second day was clear liquids, today was full liquids which allowed yogurt.

I am still in hospital..they will not release me until the pain is better. Still on morphine and prednisone. Pain gets pretty intense at times, unlike anything I have ever felt. Last night was miserable. The fluids burned out the iv in my hand... took them 5 more tries to get another vein. I don't know why...but it was horrible. I just want to be home, in my own bed.. but I am told I have to wait. As for the crohn's...I can't do anything until the pancreatitis is completely cleared up than we can look to the next round of meds..

Thanks for all the support... this has been interesting.. to say the least.

I was released to come home today... not doing so hot..vomited when I got home.. called dr... if I do it again I have to go back..I really don't want to go back.

Next week I have to see the GI to see what our next path is..actually talked to the mayo and they were shocked this happened and now want me to do nothing for 6 months..I am really not happy with that.

day by day.. right?
