Does anyone know if almond milk from the store is SCD legal? There is one that is nonsweetened.
Thanks! Hoping I can use it in my morning coffee.

I don't think it is. The stuff my mom drinks has carrageenan in it. That stuff is bad even for healthy guts. Nut milk is supposed to be easy to make, but I've never done it myself.

How about using coconut milk? I think there are some that appear to be legal. Trader Joe's has one, but it's "light," which isn't supposed to taste as good.

I am drinking it and having no problem...? But I am a newbie. I use the flavored and non flavored, it is great in cereal. I do watch the sugar count, and try to save the flavored (vanilla) as a special treat.

I just looked up the ingredients, and the Almond Breeze Original Unsweetened contains both tapioca starch & carrageenan, which aren't allowed on SCD.

Kim, are you following SCD?

i use it. it is the only milk substitute i use and can suggest any one using. i use it thin out my smoothies cos the cost of sheep and goat milk yogurt and kefir is pretty darn expensive. this helps the wallet.

if getting it from a store, get the plain/unsweetened kind. organic is best.

it has been around since the medieval times and is actually fairly easy to make if you dont mind a little elbow grease and have time on your hands.

Thanks.....I guess. I knew it probably wasn't. I will go to the health food store and look for coconut milk. I can follow this diet w/ alot of planning but never could give up the skim milk in my morning cup of coffee. I was microwave the milk thinking that worked.  I have been off of the diet for awhile.  I am back on. I feel so much better on it!
Thanks Spooky!

I also use Almond Breeze, but I don't follow SCD or anything. I do find it sits better with me than soy though, and WAY better than regular milk, hehehe. :)

spooky- not sure what SCD is--- newbie... I am going to search now.

I am also drinking coconut WATER--- it really helps with the pred side effects, very hydrating, a lot of potassium.

I am in the learning stage... almost afraid to eat too many different things, because of a flare...?

OK, I just figured out what SCD is (Specific Carbohydrate Diet,)
And, my next step was actually to go see a naturapathic doc that was recommended by a friend---
Learn something new every day!

I find that I have to limit myself to the board to once a day, to digest (no pun intended) everything I learn and then come back for more.

I've never milked an almond, but I have nursed an Almond Joy.

I think you can make your own almond milk by blending almonds with water and letting the mixture sit for a period of time, eventually straining it.  I think it's fairly simple.

I'll bet there are recipes online.

I've seen this nut milk bag recommended a lot: http://www.vt-fiddle.com/rawfood/nut_milk_bags_sprouting_bags.php

They also have very detailed instruction on how to make it.
