I received my Humira Pen Kit last night and will be going to my doctor tomorrow to administer the first injections.  My family and I watch the video and read all the material but I received the most information and comfort from right here! :)  I manage pain pretty well and not as nervous (until they said dont inject directly into stretch marks - thats all i have on my stomach since having 3 kids).  So i guess my options or limited to my legs!

Just wanted to check of any last tips I should know.
Thanks!

Only tip I have for you is to let the pen warm up, leave it out for 10 mins or so.

And... Get a calendar, put the little stickers on it, so you don't lose track of your injections.

Good Luck  smilewinkgrin

I second the leaving them out for a while, also at the Dr's office when you get the 4 shots(I think?) make sure you are sitting or lying down, after the first 3 I almost passed out and had to wait a few minutes for the 4th, I'm prolly just a baby, but I got myself worked up so much I guess because it hurts!

Thanks Homeboy & LoveArt, I will ensure to leave it out before going to the doctor and I think it is the 4, then 2 the next day. Oh and I have the calendar for the frig and my phone.

Pam don't be nervous! I think it all sounds worst that it probably will be, but I will check in later and let you know how it went and I'm sure it will be fine for us both!

Good luck Pmkrier, i am very positive that it will be great for us both and we will be feeling better very soon. Sorry you already had a shot this week but that was just getting you prepared for today!

Thanks again everyone and Happy Friday!

Also, ice the area for 10 min. and ice afterwards. I take a deep breath and then exhale and inject. Works for me.
Good luck!

By the time I finally got the Humira thing all figured out between my doc, Walgreen's/Medco, and some other company that I still haven't figured out what they were supposed to do, I just did them myself.

I had read everything on this site that I could find, so I was pretty prepared mentally for what was to come. I watched the video first, then watched it again and did it along with them. I left the pen out about 20 min, iced the site REALLY well, and took a benedryl before hand. I had heard that sometimes the site itches but didn't know how bad, so figured what the h*ll, I'm going to bed shortly after this anyway and it can't hurt any. Make sure you count to 10 before you pull the pen away. I heard a little hiss, thought it had all injected and pulled it away just to have the med run down my belly.

It really isn't that bad. Don't stress on it.
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 13. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. 2 fistula's, perianal and perivaginal.

Humira, probiotic, a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and fish oil. I also take Tramadol 50 mg and Klonopin (for anxiety) as needed.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance!

Just got back from my first four Humira injections. Those hurt pretty bad, way more than a b-12 injection. I survived though. Hope this makes me feel great.

Mmac - how did it go for you today?

I hate shots! They always laugh at me at the hospital because I have 13 tattoos but I hate needles. It's a completely different thing, though. I refused the b12 shots and took the pills because the nurse said they would hurt :(. I wish Remicade had worked--that was so much easier

I had my first 4 injections today. I got them all in the thighs. This nurse did the first one and I did the other 3. I was all worked up anticipating the pain, and they were not bad at all! Yay. Really, they were not very painful and the stinging only lasted a few seconds. I just hope this helps me

Happy Wednesday!

Pmkrier - so glad you survived and it went well for me also! I have a high tolerence for pain so the injection were not bad at all, uncomfortable for those 8-10 seconds but not as bad as I was thinking. I administered all 4 injections so i have a couple of bruises - but the ice worked and no swelling or injection site pain. Really been feeling pretty good over the past few days just get really tired toward the evening, so no compliants.

Oh had one wierd think to happen - all 4 injections were in my thighs and the next day the back of both legs were sore to walk not touch - but went away after moving around.

How are you doing now after a few days?

Pam222 - also glad it went well and I also hope this helps us both! Keep me posted.

Glad to hear it went okay with some people today! Hope it went well for everyone! I can't wait til I can start Humira! Id like to think I have a high tolerance for pain, but its always different when you do it to yourself vs having other people do it. Hopefully its not too bad!

25 year old female, diagnosed with Crohn's in 2002 after being misdiagnosed with Lyme Disease for a year.  Have been on Prednisone, Asacol, Entocort, Remicade, and Mercaptopurine (even the lowest dosage was messing up my liver, argh) in the past.

Currently on Avalox (well, when I'm not throwing it up...), and a quick power pack of Pred, ugh

Trying to get on Humira but having insurance issues.. :(

They're really not bad! I had no bad reactions or anything either. I just have bruises where the injections were, but I bruise very easily anyway and on Pred. I bruise like crazy
