I've been seeing a lot of talk about probiotics on the board and through some reading I've been doing on Crohn's. Seems pretty interesting and I'm thinking about trying it out. Not sure how to pick a brand or what to expect from using them. smilewinkgrin
Diagnosed 2002.

75mg Imuran, 750mg Balsalazide 3x day, Tapering Pred.

Maybe flaring...maybe not?

TruNature® Digestive Probiotic at costco.com features a 10B CFU blend of Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bacterium lactis. Allergen free. It's a good value but check with other Crohn's people if the strains suit your needs.

I have been taking fish oil and probiotics for a couple weeks. Don't see a difference yet, but maybe I would be worse if I weren't taking them. Not sure. I seem to be slipping from mild to moderate lately.

I am doing the SCD yogurt for my probiotics. This is an alternative. Perhaps this is something you might want to look at.

Like everything else, we are all different when it comes to the probiotics. I had tried many different brands and they all made things worse, so I figured they weren't for me. Finally my doctor told me to try Align and I gave them a shot. They actually worked for me. Less bloating, gas and D. My point is that it may take a few trials and errors to find the RIGHT one for you. Buy a good brand and give it a few weeks before you give up on it, if things don't get better or get worse, then it isn't for you, so move on to another brand.

My Dr. recently suggested Tu-Zen( 10 billion lactobacllus plantarum299v), which he said may help control diarhea. I took 1pill every other day for 3 doses then 1 a day for 3 doses and then 2 a day for 4 doses. By this time my bowel movements had dropped from 5-6 a day to 2-3 a day. I stopped about 6 weeks ago and still am enjoying the benifits of Tu-Zen. Plus I still have half a box left if my bm's go up again. This is the first probiotic that I've seem any result from but others have ones that worked for them. Just try them one at a time and take them slower than the instructions say just to be safe, if it doesn't work then try another.

I take Primadolphilus Fortify by Natures Way. I went from having 4-6 loose stools a day, to 1-2 more solid stools. They really do help.
