My brother went to the ER for an appendectomy a couple months ago and we were talking about it it a little while ago... He described the pain and how it came in waves and when I described what I felt during my obstruction they sounded the same... Was wandering if anyone here was lucky enough to go through both and if they are similar?

I had an appendectomy myself, but mine turned out to have been a healthy appendix that was removed. I am pretty sure that I really had a obstruction as I wound up having an emergency resection only a few years later. Very similar. Hugs!

I had appendectomy as well but the appendix pathology was just fine. I am sure it was an obstruction as well. I had three in a row. Good luck...

Sometime before my first surgery my appendix had ruptured. At the time of my surgery I had the ruptured appendix, an obstruction, and an abcess. Don't know which one was causing the most pain....since they were all going on at the same time.

Come to think of it yes it was very similar. I had to sit here and think back 34 years and yes it was cyclical in nature and the pain wasn't controlled until I was given intravenous narcotics before surgury. For me it started as a stomach ache around 9am and by 3pm was cyclical pain and progressively getting worst and more frequent between the peaks. Around 9pm I was given IV painkillers and pretty much was out of it until 3 am surgury.
