My only suggestion would be to stop "researching" the topic until you see your doctor. The web is a good source of info and unfortunately an even better source of misinformation!

Could this be a stress reaction? I've had these in the past where my muscles got so tense I had real bad mid back and shoulder blade pains. It was my chiropracture (sp?)that noticed and fixed the problem.

I have had severe upper to mid back back for 6 years now.  I am 36 years old and it began after the birth of my twins.  I have been told everything from just arthritis to job related.  I just had a doctor tell me his thinks that T8 is bulging or herniated which no one else has seen on my MRI films (including a neurologist and radiologist).  While I am relieved to have a diagnosis, I hear that this is the worst area to have a herniated disc.  The pain is so unbearable that I have recently left my job and am becoming severely depressed.  I have such horrible leg pain that it is very difficult to walk for any length of time.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about treating this?  The doctor recommended epidural injections but said that may not work on that area of my back and sent me home with a pain patch

Ok, here's my take on this symptom.

I think it's crohns, specifically a symptom of adhesion, though granted not all feel this pain, but the inflammation effects us all a bit differently as much as the same. I lived with that pain for 15 years, it only went away when my surgeon unglued my guts. Nothing showed on xrays, so my GI's never believed me. It hurt as much as anything.

I find Bowen Therapy to be very helpful for it and yoga too. Simple yoga moves can relax the tightness and calm it.
CD 24 years. Multiple surgeries in past 10 yrs. 4 year Illeostomy. Mesh rejection. Too close to death, twice. Large inscisional hernia. Perpetually underweight. Short bowel syndrom. Have used a variety of complementary medical therapies. Highly recommend Bowen Therapy as the best body work. Take me vites. Started Low Dose Naltrexone March 27, 2010. Got married for the only time 2008. Survive because of the love of good friends, and because I can. Happy to be alive. IBD needs more awareness and more voices willing to speak up. BE well.

Do you know if you have fibromyalgia?

I agree with Cleo, though - stop researching online!!!!!!!!!

In the meantime, can you afford a massage? That might help, a lot.

I have awful upper back, shoulder and neck pain. I've posted about it before on the anxiety board but didn't get much of a response.

Could it be from stress? That is what I've been told. I went to see a DR and he gave me klonopin to treat the attacks of stress and it seems to help quite a bit with my back. Only downfall is that it can make me tired.

Why would you think Cancer? I did research and it said cervical neck pain and that is it common. I never thought I could have Cancer for a second. I did buy this very expensive neck pillow which hasn't helped much. I am a hypochondriac so I look around for all sorts of things and diagnose myself. I think my neck problem is mostly anxiety and stress. I wish the tightness would go away. Does yours crack/pop a lot?

I also have large breasts which I think contribute to the pain.
