I feel like I am losing this war. Since I have been home from the hospital, on a bland smaller diet, I have not had one bowel movement. Anything that comes out urgently is mucus. I violently went on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the hospital and haven't gone since. I am in quite a bit of pain and really backed up. I started taking the milk of mag yesterday but nothing. I took it again this morning and again nothing. Nothing is moving. I am scared to death to the do the fleet enema because of the painful, bloody reaction I had to it at the hospital, miralax causes a crazy 15- 20 x a day reaction so don't want to do that and stool softeners cause me pain.

I am going crazy. I just want to feel better.

I don't want to be alarmist, but it sounds like you're close to obstuction, when I first was diagnosed 40 years ago, my earlier symptoms were d then contipation, back and forth with nausea and lots of intestinel pain, and then one night at midnight(naturally) I had a large bm and then total obstuction with in 30 min. so be careful, when you're in condition you're in I wouldn't do enema's. good luck something will happen. my first surgery I had to remove disease in my small bowel, which was my 3rd in 5 month period, and all very invasive, gave me pretty good remission for years

June, can you get up and walk around? Are you still taking the pain meds, is that why you think you're constipated?

I would advise patience and to stay away from laxatives and enemas, but I think this is a conversation to have with your DR. In my experience, even though it's miserable to wait, bowel movements do eventually happen. I think adding more drugs to this situation is not ultimately going to be helpful.

The other question is whether you think it is possible that you have a stricture or obstruction that could be preventing stool movement. If your Crohn's is a stricturing kind, this might be an important issue.

If you can move around, do it as much as possible. Also massage your belly in a clockwise direction to encourage movement.

I am not on pain meds any longer... today I had a very thin ribbon like stool so I am hoping its a good sign.. been trying to walk so many times a day to encourage movement. Had milk this morning because I am lactose intolerant , thought that might help and it did. My doctor is quick to give me miralax or a fleet and I have no interest in either right now. I never have had a stricture nor obstruction....so not sure. I am keeping an eye.. thank you guys so much... I was freaking out all night. My hubby seems to think that I can go 3 or 4 days after I am completely cleaned out so he thinks I should just breathe.

breathing..... thank you.

I agree with the thought to avoid more meds if you can -- your body has been through a lot.

Try hot water with lemon several times a day - this, combined with walking around can help relax things and get things moving.

If you start to feel faint, throw up or break out in a sweat while trying to go to the bathroom, I'd call the doctor - could be sign of obstruction.

Good luck.

junerainbow: Gosh, you have been through so much lately. Maybe the best thing is to take it easy, no fleets or artificial anything. Stay hydrated, eat a few stewed prunes and see what happens. Would power down the diet gatorade or whatever has electrolytes that you can get your hands on. Take it easy, relax and let things heal. If you don't put much in you shouldn't get much out. Thats my personal opinion-probably hard to relax after all you have been through but maybe go to the pool, sit in a hot tub, find a good masseuse-drink lots of soothing tea ---just take it easy! Best always, Barb

Symptoms since Jan 2009, Dx UC vs crohns May 2010 but probably small bowel Crohn's dz, biopsies all "normal"

Meds: Celebrex, Omeprazole, Liadla, Entocort EC 9mg/day, Vit D, Mulitvit, Omega 3's, Ambian, Neurontin
