Hey guys, my husband is being transferred to Bowling Green, KY.  We do not want to move, but if he wants a job, we don't have a choice in the matter.  So, I'm gonna be needing a new gi doctor and also a colorectal surgeon.  If anybody has any recommendations, I would certainly appreciate it!  Thanks!

crohniemomx2: I don't know any doc's in Kentucky, but its a lovely state and Bowling Green only 1 hour away from Vanderbilt Medical Center in Tennessee. Some great docs there - if you need more information and no one else comes along, I know someone who completed a fellowship there and he might have some connections. Barb

Symptoms since Jan 2009, Dx UC vs crohns May 2010 but probably small bowel Crohn's dz, biopsies all "normal"

Meds: Celebrex, Omeprazole, Liadla, Entocort EC 9mg/day, Vit D, Mulitvit, Omega 3's, Ambian, Neurontin

I have a couple of very close friends from Bowling Green - I'm originally from central Kentucky.  I'll ask them if they have any recommendations.
Oh - and, yes, it's about an hour from Nashville and a couple of hours from Louisville, both of which have large teaching hospitals (Vandy, Univ of Louisville).

I hope you like Bowling Green.  I go to Dr. James Curtiss and I really like him.  Not sure if all my concerns are being met because I always have tons of questions.  He is always willing to listen and his staff is wonderful. I am on Humira and I feel everything has improved.  But I keep on having little back slides.   I have forgotten what "normal" is suppose to be.   I have a friend that has crohns that goes to another dr here and she loves him.  Also, Vanderbilt in Nashville is one of the best hospitals.  It is an hour away. Not sure the surgeon here in BG. You can email me if you have any other questions about drs or anything else in BG.

I live near Louisville and I see Dr. Mark Bronner at Louisville Gastroenterology Associates.  It would be a long drive, but he has Crohn's so he knows his stuff.  I have a friend with both UC and Crohn's who used to live in Louisville and she drove to Vanderbilt for her appts.  She loved it and recommended it, I just didn't want to drive that far.  I also did a clinical trial at the University of Louisville Hospital and loved the doctor...Dr. Gerald Dryden.  I've also heard that Dr. Kreger is very good and she's at UofL Hospital as well.  Not sure of any that are closer to Bowling Green.

Sorry, I think her name is Kruger, not Kreger.  Christine Kruger, I think.  I've had someone recommend her to me before, so I think she is supposed to be pretty good.

My friends' parents' family doctor (did you follow that?) recommended one of these two: Dr Nagy Morsi, or Dr Mort Shamir, both GI's in Bowling Green from what I gather.

Dr. Shamir was my first GI dr.  He was nice but I felt I wasn't getting the medical answers I needed and I wasn't getting any better.  My current dr, Dr. Curtiss really listens to me.  I don't know about Dr. Morsi. Good luck in your move.  I saw that you are a teacher too.  I teach also in the Warren County Schools.

CrohnieMomX2, I'm sorry to hear you guys will be moving. Doggone job situations are so "iffy" now - especially w/GM. Before you leave, when you run out to see your sister in Hemlock, stop in to the corner market next to Jimmy John's called Chandler's. They have AWESOME deli sandwiches to go: wraps, chipolte bread, pita bread, etc. I LOVE the grilled chicken caesar spinach wrap but have them substitute beef for the chicken. My granddaughter and I were just at First Wok yesterday on our way out to Delta for her interview. The orange chicken was "peppy" and I bought some extra cheese crab cakes to bring home. Yummy! I can't eat much anymore tho. Probably heading for Mayo and the surgeries this fall. I just had an upper GI by Dr Naram last month. I hope you are blessed w/a good GI and colorectal in or very near Bowling Green. I used to know a good veterinarian in BG. But don't suppose THAT will do you any good now. *wicked grin* Good luck and God bless to you and your family.

I teach 2nd grade at Cumerland Trace.  We have lived in Bowling Green since 1993 when my husband was transferred with Fruit of the Loom.  I think my dr. is great, but if I had a severe case and wasn't getting answers I would go to Vanderbilt.  My daughter was treated for Leukemia at Vanderbilt 16 years ago and today she is a picture of health:)

Hi, I have UC, not Chron's but I happed to see this post.  I live right smack in the middle of Bowling Green and Louisville.  I chose to go to Louisville, I go to Louisville Gasto Specialists (mentioned above).  If I lived in Bowling Green and couldn't find a dr there I liked I'd probably go to Nashville, it's closer to BG than Louisville.

I hope you like Kentucky, I've lived here all my life and love it :)
