Hi guys,
I just found out that my older sister, she is 35, was in the hospital for colitis.  But she is the first relative of mine that has any type of gastrointestinal problem like me.  She's freaking out now, as she knows by watching me, how bad it can get.  What's worse is she does not have health insurance.  It just sux.  I know how it feels and wish I could help more.   She can't hold anything down, not even the antibiotic.  She had a CT scan done which showed the inflammation of the colon, and they discharged her soon after.  I know when I was like that I was on all IVs, no food, no pills, and that was the only way I recovered.  IDK we may have to go back to the ER.  mad
Current meds:  Remicade
Tried:  Prednisone, sulfasalzine, lialda, antibiotics, imuran
29 yr old female w/ crohn's colitis and SEVERE leg pain

So sorry to hear about your sister. My bro was dx'd with Crohn's about 4-5 years ago after having watched me go through it for the last 20 years. It's so awful and you feel so bad for them. Hopefully you can be a good support system for her and I hope she can get something figured out as far as insurance goes. Can she apply for medicaid or anything?

I have a sibling with RA...I just hope my other two siblings can come out of their late 20's and early 30's unscathed...it hit me when I was 28, my sister, when she was like 33 or so...
I know that being in the ER can bite, but it sounds like she needs to really be admitted and get some gut rest...and some fluids...I am hoping that you all are doing okay...

She is working full time but does not qualify for insurance until January 2011, she has to wait a full year. So I'm worried if she gets diagnosed now that she will have a pre-existing condition. I think she probably makes too much for Medicaid, but were looking into it. Man I thought it was bad for the family to deal with me like this, but with two it just makes it that much harder. Maybe she'll get over it with just the antibiotics. As usual, thanx for the support Stef.

That is terrible news. It's so hard to watch someone you love go through an illness like this. I would feel really bad knowing my siter had UC or Chrons. I don't tell her I have it because I don't want to stress her out, she has enough to worry about.

My son was diagnosed with CD at 18..My father was UC..I cried when my son was diagnosed.  My husband was like he's not dying.  This disease does affect your life in many ways.  He had a bad flare a few months ago and called scared asking me what if this does not get better?  I have had asked myself that plenty of times.  You don't wish your misery even if you can relate onto to your family members you care about.
