Hi everyone!

I've been offline for about a month while I was on an Athletes In Action Basketball Mission Trip to Guatemala. It was a wonderful experience and one I'll probably doing again in the future.

I'm asking for prayers as I get ready to have surgery tomorrow. I'm having an open hernia repair for a hernia that developed along my previous surgery incision. My surgeon is also going to completely revise my incision. Obviously, I have a fear in the back of my head that I'll wake up from surgery with another colostomy bag like I had two years ago. Thanks in advance and I'll try to keep you updated since I'll have my computer in the hospital with me this time.

Shawn,
Good luck on your surgery tomorrow. I'll say some prayers for you and your doctors. I think worrying beforehand is the worst part of surgery for me so just think... this time tomorrow the hard part will be done. Keep us updated.

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to give you an update on how my surgery went. I've been in the hospital since Wednesday. The doctor repaired my abdominal hernia (which was bigger than I expected, about 5" in diameter) and revised my abdominal incision scar and my ostomy scar. My bowels have been really slow to wake up, but I finally had a movement today. I've never been so happy to have a bm, nor have I ever gone 4.5 days between movements (even before Crohn's). Lol. I get to go home tomorrow morning and will have to see the surgeon in his office in a couple of days to have my second drain removed (his nurse removed one this morning, but the second one was still putting out too much to come out). Hope everyone is doing well.

New update: Looks like I'm staying for another day at least. The doctor doesn't like the amount of drainage from the remaining drain in my abdomen. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm glad the surgery went well. Hopefully the drainage will slow and you can go home tomorrow. I know how disappointd you must have been learning you had to stay another day. Stay strong and keep us updated.

I did get released today. I still have the one drain to manage until it is producing less than 25 cc during a 24 hour period. Then I cancall my surgeon's office & they'll have me come in to remove the drain. Doing well now, but worn out. I'm going to crash on the couch for a while before dinner. Thanks for the prayers and support during this latest surgery. You guys are great!!!!!!

Well, I survived the first full day at home with my girls. I'm on lifting and driving restrictions, of course. It sucks to have my wife tell my daughter that she is in charge of making sure that Daddy doesn't lift anything heavier than a big glass of water. I'm not even allowed to move the TV tray that my laptop is sitting on right now without help or my wife & daughter both get on me. I oopsed last night and did it without even thinking. No pain, but a lecture followed in about 5 minutes when my wife figured it out.

I was asked by our Youth Pastor to speak in his place tomorrow night to our Youth Service and discuss my trip to Guatemala. So, yesterday I spent about 8 hours writing a message. I've never really done any "preaching" but I think I'll do ok with it.

Today, is a quiet day at home. My girls are probably going swimming this afternoon, but I think I'd rather stay inside the house since it is 95 and a heat index of about 108 outside and I can't get in the water. I have to go to work the next three days for about 6-7 hours a day. Then I get about two weeks without having to be in the office. I'll get some easy days that way.

Hope everyone is doing well!
