Hi guys,
Just thought I would mention something... I had been having a sore throat since February.  Sometimes annoying but sometimes to the point I would lose my voice.  I saw an ENT who did a scope of the area and she said my throat and vocal chords were swollen, not due to infection but due to acid reflux from crohns.  Well I didn't really have any upper stomach upset so I thought this was weird.  But she prescribed prevacid and I started to take it just to see what would happen.  I am happy to say that my sore throat is pretty much gone.  What I had thought was a recurrent infection was actually acid reflux, weird.  I guess that may mean my crohns is flaring up more even on Remicade. IDK.  Just thought I would share.
Current meds:  Remicade
Tried:  Prednisone, sulfasalzine, lialda, antibiotics, imuran

I'm glad you figured out what was hurting your throat. It's amazing the damage acid reflux can do. Just so you know - prevacid actually gave me diarrhea. It took me the longest time to figure out. I thought I was flaring while on remicade too, but it turns out once I switched from Prevacid to Nexium, the D stopped. Not saying that's the case for you, but if your syptoms are only worse since starting the prevacid, it could be that. Anyway, thought I'd throw that out there for what it's worth.

You can have worse reflux but not necessarily have active crohn's. One doesn't have to mean the other is bad. I constantly have reflux, even while taking meds for it. In fact, I can only lie on one side to sleep or I can feel myself refluxing....and my scope last week showed no active disease. I've taken meds for reflux for over 13 years, and it isn't worse or better when I'm having symptoms from CD. It's bad no matter what.

Just thought I'd throw that out at ya....don't know if it'll make you feel any better about your situation.

Glad you got things figured out!!! Much easier to treat reflux than it be infection and you have to take antibiotics and have to deal with the side effects from them!

Those of you w/reflux: are you also tired all the time? Need or want to take naps? Why not look up and try the Epworth Sleepiness Scale? A sleep study just might be in order for you. Especially if you snore. But even if you don't, even if you are not overweight, even if you are not over 50 and even if you are not a male.
