First of all I have been reading past posts on here for about 10 min. but could someone please save me some time and answer a quick question for me.
My neice has Crohns and is currently starting to flare. Her symptoms are V & D. She is wanting to try the SCD. Should she eat only the chicken soup broth w/ pureed carrots without the chicken meat for a couple of days. Or does she eat the whole intro diet....eggs, chicken soup w/ chicken, and the rest of the stuff listed for intro diet?  I'm a little confused, b/c I was symptom free when I started....(on a bout of steroids).  I want to advise her correctly and she wants to start today...so her Mom needs to go shopping etc....
Advice please..
Thanks so much!

Take a look at the following link. This will give you the answers you want from a SCD approved site

If she's having D, it's recommended not to eat eggs. However, she can have the rest of the intro diet.

Thank you. Spooky, I'm a little confused. In the chicken soup recipe it says to strain the soup, puree the carrots and add that to the broth...however, what about the chicken? I always put it back in.  It isn't clear to me in the recipe. If she has D should she start w/ just the broth?

Thanks!

You add the chicken and pureed carrots back to the broth, and toss the celery, parsley, and onion.

All of the foods on the intro diet (except for maybe eggs) are fine for your niece to try. People with severe D should skip the eggs initially. According to http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/the_intro_diet2.htm :

"At the beginning of the program, when symptoms such as diarrhea and cramping are severe, the following basic diet should be followed for about five days. In other cases, one or two days on this basic diet is sufficient. The amounts of the specified foods to be eaten depend upon the appetite of the individual; there is no restriction as to quantities eaten."

Therefore, your niece will want to stay on intro for several days if she can manage it. I hope she finds lots of success with this diet!

Thanks Spooky! I appreciate it! I'm hoping this will help her. They are coming to Maine for a 2 weeks vacation w/ us and hoping this will help her flare before it gets real bad...
