My doctor just told me to see a hematologist because of my low white blood count, is this normal with crohns? I just came off of
prednisone and the pain seems to be coming back and will probably have to go back on it shortly.

I thought people usually have high white blood count when inflammation is present. I think I also read that prednisone can cause your white blood count to raise. Maybe yours is low from coming off prednisone? Has it been low for a while or did it drop recently? Do you get frequent bloodwork?

I don't think it's normal...only time my WBC was low was when my dose of Imuran was too high. So they adjusted it and then my count went back up.

Are you taking any meds??
Diagnosed 2002 at 18. Remission for about 7 years. Getting back into the swing of things at 26.

75mg Imuran, 750mg Balsalazide 3x day, Tapering Pred (almost done).

Flaring...

Attempting SCD...fingers crossed!

Hi, Don't know as there is as strong of an association between decreased white counts (leukopenia) and crohns. The stronger association is the meds used to treat crohns - especially steroids or immune suppressing drugs. Attached is a link for more information if you are interested.

Meds: Celebrex, Omeprazole, Liadla, Entocort EC 9mg/day, Vit D, Mulitvit, Omega 3's, Ambian, Neurontin.
