43 yr old male diag with Crohn's at age 13
2 resects
if i didnt have fisutlas and an abcess id barely know i had Crohns now. its so bad i got a colostomy in Nov of 09 to let the abcess heal and fisutlas dry up. its gottne better now that its been 8 months past but its still not gone completely. i am to have a scope in august to see if getting "reconnected" is a possibiluty.

Q: anyone have a bag and get reconnected after 8 months? im worried about the muscles down there still being useful. been trying to keep flexing them but who knows.

Q: anyone recommend some meds or treatments to help the fistulas and abcess go away WITH crohns?

been reading the the bad stories of plugs and setons. just dont understand why both abcess and fistula cant be REMOVED by surgery.

thanks for any and all advice

Hi adidas and welcome to the Healingwell Crohns forum. I do not have experience with fistulas, but many of our great members have. So I am sure someone will be along soon. Just wanted to welcome you to our forum. Hugs!

Have you tried taking Remicade or any other biologics? They are supposed to help fistulas. I think Imuran (Azathioprene) also helps. Flagyl and Cipro together are sometimes used in hopes of closing them also.

I have one fistula that tracts to two different opening. I can't answer about reversing the ostomy. Maybe asking on the Ostomy forum would get answers to that also. (Just starting to think I need one myself ... )

Sorry I'm not more help. Just wanted to chime in with what little I know to help with your questions. Hang in there!
1 fistula with two tracts, crohn's colitis, limited to large intestine
Compounded budesonide 3mg/daily, Cimzia. Dx Osteoporosis 10/08 started Forteo 1/27/09
Failed every other drug and about to prepare for ostomy surgery... In the process of gathering info and meeting with ET nurses.

The only meds that helped my fistulas were 6MP and Imuran. Humira didn't do anything for them, but I hear remicade works well.

My fistulas finally healed after I changed my diet. I follow SCD, and have been fistula free for over a year now.
