Hi everyone.  I have crohn's disease and I am having a lot of stomach pain.  Like obstruction pain which I  know what that feels like since I have partial ones frequently due to a sever stricture after surgery.  So my doctor presricbed Librax for the pain and intestinal cramping.  When i read about it on the internet it said it was used like xanax.  I already take xanax.  Can I take them together?  Anyone here on this drug and does it help?  Thank you.

I usually suffer with more constipation than diarrhea. But when I am having one of those days with more d and lots of intestinal spasms this med works wonders for me. I take Xanax as needed myself, I try not to take them at the same time. But I do like that aspect of Librax, as the pain and d cause me to feel a little anxious and this med helps in that way too. Hugs!

Thanks nanners. I'm in so much pain from this stricutre it's unbearable at times. I haven't been sleeping since the pain keeps me up all night and my whole body hurts as well. My joints are also killing me. My doc wants to put me on prednisone...yet again and i refuse. I hate how steroids makes me feel. I'm waiting for my meds to kick in. I just came off of methotrexate after it wasn't working and i was put on allopurinol and azathioprine but these meds takes at least 4 to 6 weeks to have any sort of effect. not only that but b/c i've had a reaction to 6mp before the tablets are now cut in half so i'm not even taking a theraputic dose. Doc wants to see how my liver and white blood count do. so i'm on weekly blood tests. so he put me on librax for the pain and i went to the pharmacy to pick it up and my insurance didn't cover it. it will cost me 160.00 for the medicine. and that's not going to happen. are there any other drugs that handle pain that are like librax? Thanks again.

bella, nothing has ever helped my stomach spasms like Librax does. I get the generic and my insurance covers all but my normal co-pay, so not sure why yours doesn't cover it.  There are other meds out there like it but I can only think of Reglan right now...I know we tried that one previously but it didn't help nearly as much.  I also take mirtazapine and xanax for anxiety every day.  I only take Librax as needed, but lately, that's been a few times a day and I haven't had any issues in combining the meds.

Other meds similar to Librax are Bentyl, Levsin (Hycosomine) or Donnatal. They are good for the intestinal spasms, but in my opinion they don't help as much as the Librax does. Hope you can get your insurance company to reconsider. Hugs!
