I just started on prednisone for the first time in a few years. I'm on 60mg taken all in the morning right now. I'm taking all at once because I've had problems sleeping on pred before. This time I'm getting headaches that build during the day and by night it's pounding. Should I split the dose in two? Any supplements or ideas for getting rid of the headaches. Tylenol does nothing.

Gosh, taking it all at once was hard on me.  I would (me personally) would split it up a bit trying to balance out the wired up feeling with enough time to wind down to sleep a bit.  I was taking it for something else last year and that JA doctor gave me 5 50mg pills(take 1 a day for 5 days).  I foolishly took a whole pill the first day before I realized 1) that there was not taper plan, and 2) that a solid 50mg all at once was going to make me feel like I was awake for 2 straight days.  I like taking it in the smaller doses throughout the day.  It helps keep some of my mental anguish, short fuse and other issues at bay, at least a little better.
Diagnosed (FINALLY) UC Sept 09/Diagnosis amended 5-3-10 to Crohn's
Taking Pentasa 500mg/8x/day
Entocort 3X/day
Bentyl as needed
1000 mg Vitamin C
Prilosec 1X/day
Flonase

This is clearly a question for your doctor to answer. I always took mine in the morning because I would be awake most of the night otherwise.

I have never taken more than 40 mg as one dose. If I am on 40 mg or less I take it all in the morning so I can sleep. If I am on 60 mg, my doctor would have me take 40 mg in the morning before 9 am and 20 mg before 6 pm. He said this would hit the 2 natural peaks people have. Then when I would start to taper I would taper the night dose first until I was down to 40 and back to just a morning dose.
Diagnosed with Crohn's in 1998, father has UC we were diagnosed at the same age.

Currently on 20 mg Prednisone, 2g Sulfasalzine, Butyric Acid, Kefir/probiotics, Curcumin, Magnesium, D3, B complex vitamin, and multi-mineral. Previously on Remicade, stopped Humira after 9 months, wasn't working.

No surgeries so far.

Wow some docs use TOO high a dose of Pred in my opinion. I never take more than 30 mg at the highest, or else I feel miserable. I would call your doc though, those headaches are worrisome. Hugs!

I like cupcakespinkgal's strategy, but I would check with your doctor. I have only taken 50 and below, and I took 50 all at once in the morning. However, I was pretty much bed ridden at the time so it had little effect that I noticed until I got to 40. Then some energy and the 'roid rage kicked in!!

The headaches are awful. Tylenol doesn't do it for me either. Are you taking anything else with the prednisone? I find that the salofalk gives me the headaches, not so much the prednisone. Maybe it is a combination of meds. Again, I would check with your doctor.
