I have another colonoscopy coming up.  I have been given movi prep instead of picolax (which I have taken before).  Any tips on how best to deal with it would be great.  I have all the guidance leaflets, but like to hear from those that have taken it

I can't handle any of those preps. I throw it all back up. You should do the Gatorade prep. It's tastes fine and works just as well.

1. Four DULCOLAX LAXATIVE tablets MUST BE THE LAXATIVE PILLS! (over-the-counter).

2. MIRALAX POWDER 238gm bottle (over-the-counter).

3. 64 oz. of Gatorade or Powerade.

DIRECTIONS FOR DULCOLAX/MIRALAX/GATORADE PREP:

Mix the entire 238 gram bottle of Miralax with 2 quarts of Gatorade in a large pitcher. Stir, chill, add ice, and let it breathe for at least a few minutes in order to fully appreciate the flavor.

At approximately 4-7PM the evening before the procedure, take all four Dulcolax tablets.

Two hours after the Dulcolax, start drinking your chilled Miralax cocktail. Drink a glass every 15min.

Works like a charm and just tastes like Gatorade!

I just did this a month ago. Mix up the solution like the instructions say. Refridgerate it so it's cold. Then, mix equal parts of movi-prep and gingerale in a cup and drink. You'll end up drinking double the liquid, but it won't taste as bad and you won't puke it up. I did the first 16oz of movi-prep alone and it was so disgusting I was gagging and almost couldn't do the rest. Then I decided to mix it and the gingerale actually *almost* over powers the movi-prep and makes it tolerable. Maybe you should drink some movi-prep first just so you can see how bad it tastes. THEN mix it with gingerale so it'll taste WAY better.

My instructions said to drink 32oz of movi-prep (8 oz, every 15 minutes for an hour), THEN take 2 dulcolax the night before the test. THEN take another 32oz of movi-prep 4 hours before my test. I ate very lightly the day before the prep and I only needed the 1st 32 oz of movi-prep and the 2 dulcolax. I didn't even take the 2nd 32oz.

Next time I have to do a colonoscopy I will do the gingerale trick for sure. That being said, it'll probably be a long time before I drink gingerale again. :) Good luck to you!!! I have my fingers crossed for you!!!

I just had 2 do this as well. The movi prep wasnt going to kill me but i did take zofran (sp?) about a hour before. I also took a glass of the movi prep drank as quick as i could and then drank a couple sips of ginger ale and sucked on some butterscotch. I dont want to do it anytime soon but that at least got me thru it and didnt ruin ginger ale for me.

Hi, I have had both these preps and actually didn't find the drinking of them too bad - it was the explosive effect that was more the problem ! I think I read somewhere that it isn't too bad to drink if you drink through a straw. Dont forget the nappy cream/vasaline whatever for your bum, I found it like peeing liquid acid ! Good luck.

Red Sox.  unfortunately I dont get a choice of what prep to take, I get what Im given off the NHS.

Ive had picloax before and I was ok with this. And I regularly take movi col, which I have got used to although it tastes horrid.

I dont like the ginger so maybe I can mix it with orange squash or something

Thanks folks

I did the moviprep about amonth ago too and it isn't nice how ever you take it.I found it just about bearable with flavoured water and add a small amount of cordial.I took slightly longer than it said to drink it otherwise it would of come straight back up, but I did manage to get away with only doing 3 of the 4 sachets. If I had of done the fourth one it would of come straight up too!
Good luck and make sure you have as much sedation as you can as well.

also id suggest a light diet at least 2 days before the prep makes what comes out lot less painful IMO

Maximus - I have had 2 colonoscopys before. If you are having picolax then be sure to make sure you stay at home after you have taken it.
They sedate me for my colonoscopy, this usually more or less knocks me out and Im not aware of a thing. You do get lots of wind afterwards though, because they pump you full of air during the proceedure. I find the prep day harder than the colonoscopy day itself.

PS you will need someone to take you home afterwards

I stuck it in the fridge for a few hours beforehand and didn't have any problems drinking it.

I do soft solids and low fiber (rice in broth, smoothies, fish rather than tougher proteins, etc.) 2 days before having to do the prep. The day before the prep, I do a Miralax purge where I mix a medium sized bottle of Miralax with Gadorade and drink throughout the day. Then I follow the Movi prep instructions. After the initial cleaning out, I find the Movi prep isn't as bad.

Maximus, u may have a B12 deficiency, many crohnies do. Our bodies dont absorb it through food. I have injections every 12 weeks. People with crohns can also have iron and calcium deficiencies
