I have an interview for a job with the county coming up and it said there is a health physical exam required for employment. Other than drug screening, what are they looking for? Do I have to volunteer info, like my cd? Will blood pressure be an issue? It's a library job, so it's not like I need to be in great shape. Has anyone had any experience with this kind of thing?

Are you in the US? If so I believe that Federal regulations provide you with protections. They are not supposed to ask you about physical conditions except wether any condition exists that might prevent you from being able to perform your duties. You should google and check.

I have had this regulation violated against me twice. It is difficult when someone asks you flat out an improper questions. Hopefully others will chime in with info. I can't see a problem for a CD person in a library unless flaring badly. GOOD LUCK

I work for public institutions, and I've had a couple of these with UC/IBD and mildly elevated blood pressure.  They've been of no consequence.  In fact, the last one many years ago seemed just to confirm that I am actually a living, breathing human being and not a trained chimpanzee.

I've since become involved in several candidate searches, and I've learned that HR/ legal's primary motivation is the TB test.  Any pre-existing conditions cannot be factored into any hiring decision, but the physical is used to assess our group rates.  Medical records are also to be kept partitioned from HR files (by law, if I'm not mistaken).

I thought they couldn't do the physicals until you were actually offered the job...that way, they cannot discriminate against you based on the results.  And seconder, you are correct that medical files must be kept under separate lock and key from the personnel files, by law.
