I have my colonoscopy on Monday and have to do the Halflytely & Bisacodyl tablets bowel prep. The directions say you need to drink the stuff every ten minutes---8oz of it. I get nauseus just thinking about it and have even lost sleep thinking about it. I have had 2 colonoscopies before but used the phosphate soda which i think is only 8 oz.. They all are horrible. Was just hoping to get some feedback from anyone has done this and what they may have done to make it go down easier. I am just so afraid I will throw up before I am eaven thru. I believe I did throw up with the Phosphate soda too. I really appreciate any suggestions or thoughts. Thanks so much!

I can only tell you my daughter's experience. She has had such a hard time in the past drinking golytely for her scopes. I have twice been stuck in a hotel room with her prepping for a scope for an out of town hospital visit and there is nothing worse. She would drink a little and then vomit everything up. It always made us so apprehensive just thinking about the next experience. But recently she was given Halflytely and it was obviously half the amount. She did so much better with it. She really slowed down on what she was eating the day or two before and tried to eat things that were easily digestible and then started the Halflytely process a little earlier than they usually tell you to on the day before the scope. It really went pretty well.

Also, her GI doctor told her not to try to follow the directions about drinking that much every 10 minutes. If you have any narrowing, it's not going to go down that well. If you start earlier, you can take a little more time to get it down.

Good luck and try to not get too stressed about it.

cry   cry cry Sorry 2 hear about your fear of the bowel prep I hate them 2 and also throw them up,,I'll tell u a little secret I had my disease now for over 20 years with many scopes under my belt so here it goes the day before the scope I eat alot of bread toasted which always helps me with the nausea as well as the gravol and the stemetil which u should go c your doctor 4 before u start the bowel prep an anti nausea I don't know if the spelling is correct 4 the Stemetil but it works great,,,I know u r only suppose 2 have broth and jello and clear fluids but I did have a few slices of toast in the am and the late afternoon cause u r going 2 loose everything in the bowel in how after the prep is over,,or r u one of these people that takes a long time 2 get cleaned out my diarrhea never stops,,,,I have had the prep u r talking about and I'll tell u something that an intern once told me they give us these different bowel preps 4 there own research 2 c what works the best,,,,The only one that I can tolerate is I think its called peg-lite its a power 2 packs which u mix with water or apple juice but I recommend water not ice cold cause the solution will get hot seriously and u only have 2 mix it with about 1/4 cup of water plus the laxatives before bed or whenever your doctor advises u 2 maybe u could look into asking him/her if u could try that instead and don't forget about getting an anti-nausea....Good Luck Let Us Know How U Made Out And I Hope My Advise Helps U Some.... ~Jenn~ turn turn turn

Great news! I made it thru. I was able to drink the whole prep. Chose Cherry flavor which helped. THink Lemon/Lime still brings back bad memories of last prep. I did throw up but not until the next morning and at least I was cleaned out for the test. I ended up drinking it every half hour instead of 10 min so I had more time and wouldn't be as bloated. I definetly agree to start earlier...if i didn't I would have gotten no sleep and been more stressed. Thanks for the support!

My husband didn't take his Lomotil for the day and skipped taking the dulcolax.  We figured not taking the Lomotil would cause diarrhea which is what dulcolax is supposed to do. Then he did complete the go-lytely. Hope that helps!
