Hi all,

I was wondering how well this prep works for you all.  I am having my scope done sept 21st..my last was oct of 08.  In the past I have used citrate of magnesia (made me vomit didnt clean me out at all) as well as the good ol visocol (now off the market) and omsoprep (also no longer on the market).  Prior to my surgeries I use to have the Mirilax Rx for my stricture due to constipation but never have I used it for the prep they told me I can skip the citrate of magnesia part but they aslo gave me dulcolax and then have me buy the prep.  Being I have not needed a laxative now that I have only 1/4 of my colon I wonder how long it will be to clean me out will it be like the osmo prep was last time I had the scope?  with miralax will there be any less cramping also I forgot to ask (I will probably call) but do I need to stop my iron a set time prior to the scope?

I loved the Mirilax prep! I only had to drink about 1/2 of what I had to drink with TriLyte. I didn't have any problems with cramping or anything.

I think you need to stop the iron at least 5 days before the scope, could be longer though.

I am also a fan of the miralax prep...if one can be a fan of doing a prep?!? It doesn't cause the cramping that other laxatives does, and it doesn't taste either, which is really good. I just mix into gatorade (a flavor I usually don't drink so I don't end up despising gatorade all together) and drink it down. It also doesn't cause all the acids in your body to come out, so you don't have "fire poop" like other preps. I still use some cream so my bottom doesn't hurt from wiping, but all in all it's a pretty easy prep.

My doctor has me do the dulcolax tablets the day prior to prep day, then the morning of the prep day.

I hope it works out easily for you!

When my doc had me do this prep I could not have been happier. I get so sick with all of the other ones and like many of you end up throwing up. I had to do the prep where you drink a gallon of that crap and it about killed me and it did kill my relationship with lemonade. I had another prep that they don't do anymore that was purely pills and I really liked that one but the health department put an end to it. Apparently it worked a little too well. The miralax was much more gentle and it is tasteless. I mixed it with gatorade also and had no problems.

When my husband was in the hospital with a bad c-diff infection and a crohn's flare, the doc gave him the miralax prep because it is much gentler than the other ones. He had him do the prep with pedialyte, and it is the easiest prep my husband has done. Now that he's feeling normal, he hasn't needed a colonoscopy, for sure, when he needs it next time, he'll be asking for the miralax prep.

The only one I will use now! Even though my GI keeps trying to prescribe halflytley -- isn't happening. Those others are harsh and make me throw up. This one is gentle and you can choose what to drink. I use it with Gatorade or lemonade drink.

Lemonade isnt clear so I thought? Also am I able to use orange flavor gatorade? I know I cannot use drinks with red dyes in them so no grape no reds but red and yellow make orange so is orange ok?

I tend to use good ol apple juice (kind of became my prep drink back when you had to use ginger ale or apple juice with osmo prep..granted cant drink it just to drink anymore) Did you all also have to use dulcolax tablets with the miralax prep? they gave me 4 pills for that.

I did mention to him that at my last scope that the ppl in the dept that tried to start my IV sugest I get it done the day before the prep..this doc I see out here said that the hospital wouldnt feel comfortable me going home with an IV and no 1 tending to it (I sadle have tended to many a PIC line in my day but it is understandable). He said if there is trble getting the IV there are anesthesiologists available to help...I informed him of the 13 tried (using anesthesiologists) the get an IV in and said they may have to use my Jug or foot since my arms are shot. I have been giving more thought to getting the port done but I have so many complications to surgeries I am fearful of getting that port placed esp now that I use Humira not remicade so getting a vein every 6 weeks isnt the case anymore.

oh well time to go climb in bed both my boyfriend and I are sick he got the worst of it but I with it being mild at this point am not taking my Humira today just to be on the safe side esp since I did have a 100 fever earler about 20 mins after taking tylenol

The lemonade drink was a pulp free bottled one, so it was clear. Not sure about the orange, if I remember right it's on my do not drink list.

Yes, I did have to do the Ducolax tabs with this prep. But I also curb my food intake starting a day or so before just to make it easier on me.

Hope you are feeling better soon.
