I was wondering if those of you who have had this test can tell me how long it took for you to get final results.  I swallowed the pill three weeks ago, and still have no results, and am just going crazy from waiting.

The assistant who removed the equipment told me "give us a call in about a week to see if results are ready".  I did, had to leave a message, and never got a call back.  Well I didn't want to rush the doctor, since I really want him to take his time looking thru the pictures.  So I waited until it had been two weeks and called again.  This time they put me on hold and got the nurse/M.A.  She got on the phone and said this particular test "takes awhile" for results because of all the pictures.  She then reassured me that I'd get a call when they were ready.  (they had told me that no follow up appointment was necessary..that if everything was normal I would get a call saying so, and if not, they'd call me in for appointment)  So it's been three weeks now, and so I called again this morning, and the receptionist had no info, and just sent a message back to the MA to call me back.  I am nearly sick from the stress of waiting...let alone sick from the symptoms that brought me there in the first place (last March...).  This is kind of the test of last resort for me...to see if there is any reason for symptoms (i have had all other tests so far...all mostly normal.)  I have lost 5 more pounds the last two weeks alone...and would really like some answers.

On another, scary note...may or may not be related....i started having dysfunctional bleeding and pelvic pain (gyn stuff) recently and went to the gyn.  They sent me for ultrasound and results are concerning...growth in uterus and on ovary and some other abnormal uterine findings...they ordered another (more invasive) test to be done "asap" according to the nurse.  I am starting to wonder if my GI stuff isn't GI at all, but all because of something going on with my reproductive system.....so getting these results would be really helpful.

I just wasn't sure if I was expecting too much to think the pill Cam results should be ready by now or not....????  I do know my GI is VERY popular, and VERY busy...and it usually takes a long time to get any result from his office.

I had the capsule endoscopy done in 2006. They told me it would take about a week to get results, but I ended up waiting about a month. It was pretty frustrating.

In defense of doctors, however, it takes several hours, maybe even 10 or more, to review the entire sequence, so it does take time.

You have to keep in mind that as soon as you swallow the big honkin thing that it is taking pictures.  It takes thousands of photos from start to stop, and then that info is downloaded from the pack to a computer and turned into a video where the doc can take a look.  I understand that to be a VERY long process.  Not to make you jealous, but I got my results just shy of 2 weeks and my office has a boat load of staff.  So if anything out of the ordinary came up for your GI it has probably delayed him getting to interpret your results.

It took a few weeks to get my results, but when I did, the MA/office manager told me everything was normal.  It wasn't until my follow up appt. 2 months later that the GI mentioned the ulcers and Crohn's disease and I was like, "um, what?!"  Yes, the MA told me wrong and I sat there for 2 months while they had the information.  Worst thing is that this drs office was a joke and they "lost" the pictures from the capsule endoscopy (said they couldn't retrieve them from the computer).  So the test that dx'ed me is gone forever and now my other GI is starting to question the dx after 5 yrs.  So, I thought it just took so long to get the results because this office was run by morons, but it sounds like it took others a while to get the results as well.

Sorry, but it shouldn't take 3 weeks. I have had this test at least 3 times and have never waited more than 10 days. Except for the first time when the stupid doctor took the results with him out of the country while he was lecturing so no one else could read them for me. You should call back and ask for results, every day if you have to. Especially with the other stuff going on, it could have an impact on what your GYN does and how you proceed.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.  So appreciated.  I know that there are hours of film to review, so that is why I was asking...not sure what kind of time frame was normal, and I was specifically told 1 week originally.  It helps to hear others took longer than expected.  I think I am really worried about the gyn stuff (more so than my GI symptoms...) right now, and feel this need to "wrap up" the GI testing...in order to finish that corner of the puzzle so to speak.  These ultrasound findings have me so freaked out...and the nurses urgency about it didn't help.  I really wonder if the chronic diarrhea, weight loss, and pain is all from this other system...

...course that probably wouldn't explain the fistula..ugh.

Just remember, most of the time these things turn out NOT to be cancer. Women end up with all sorts of things in their uterus and on their ovaries. Most of these things are not too serious. I don't mean they are fun to have but they won't kill you. Uterine polyps and fibroids are way more common than cancer. Most ovarian cysts are benign.

Don't let the nurse freak you out. Saying you need more tests ASAP just means that you shouldn't put them off. This could work to your benefit - they might not make you wait weeks and weeks before they can fit you in.

I was once told that I needed an immediate colonoscopy which was a bit scary. Until they made my "immediate" appointment a month away.

I had my test done during the week my GI was on vacation.  But I would say that I had my test results back by 2 weeks after I ingested the pill - basically a week's time to get the results.  So I also think 3 weeks is excessive.  And he told me that all 10,000 or so images are uploaded to create a movie of sorts that takes about 2 hours to watch.
