Did anyone start the MD or SCD diet with a stricture? Is it possible the diets can help open the strictures up with healing?

I tried SCD for about a month with a stricture. It helped for a while, but choices were extremely limited with the stricture. A lot of vegetables that they recommend aren't able to be eaten. So I ended up having to give it up after I started because I didn't feel like I was getting enough nutrients from it and when I introduced nut flour, I started having a ton of pain.

So I'm going to do it again after I get bad enough for surgery. It might work to get inflammation down, but my stricture is almost all scar tissue. confused

I started it with a stricture (about 7mm wide at terminal ileum). A colonoscopy later showed that it was scar tissue, so I had surgery last fall to remove it. However, if your stricture is inflammation, not scar tissue, it definitely can heal. I'm staying on the diet so that I don't ever get another stricture. So far, so good!

While I had my stricture, I didn't eat any raw foods. I stuck to meat, well-cooked fruits and veggies, eggs, yogurt, cheese, gelatin, and nut butters (I mostly stayed away from nut flours). Elaine Gotschall said, "The foods that may aggravate people with narrowed ileums (strictures) are raw grapes, a lot of raisins, spaghetti squash, peels of veggies and fruits, nuts eaten whole even when chewed well (nut flour in baking seems to be
fine).

If you have any more SCD questions, just ask :-).

Yes, my daughter started SCD and Entocort when she had a stricture, and now the stricture is gone. Verified via colonoscopy.

I'm not doing well with fibre, so I'll have to give fibre foods up for a while. I went back to my white sourdough bread last night, and I feel it getting through easier. Hopefully, if this stricture opens up, I'll be able to eat more MD stuff again.

my crohn's is in the rectum/anus and that is narrowed due to the disease. i began the maker's diet and the scd both after i had surgery to remove the sigmoid colon and the ileum. i dont know if they can help heal strictures, but it would not surprise me. it is amazing how the body can heal itself if given the proper tools (ie nutrition).
