I had a colonoscopy yesterday.  My colon looks good the doc said, which I was worried about so that's good news.   My reason for posting this is I was confused on something the doc did, I've never heard of this.    He said "he took a small bit of my small intestines and sent it away for a biopsy to see if my Crohn's was active"  He said something about it being inflamed and they can get a good reading that way.  Isn't my symptoms of the last year enough to determine if my Crohn's is active?   Maybe it's a normal thing, but I had never heard of that.
Thanks!

If he said it was inflamed he was doing the biopsies to see if the inflammation was from your Crohns. In my opinion, I think its a good idea because if the biopsies come back as Crohns he can work on a treatment plan for it. Good luck!

By the way most people have their Crohns confirmed by biopsy during a Colonoscopy, VERY normal.

with every colonoscopy my GI takes a biopsy. I Have had 7 over the past 14 years with 7 biopsy
48 yrs old male married 2 teenage boys.
  • Dianosed with CD 14 yrs ago-probably had it for a lot longer
  • tried Asacol, Pentasa, Cimzia, Remicade, Predisone
  • Had blockage in 2009-hospitalized for 6 days.
  • Had surgery in Jan, 2010 to remove terminal illium-13 inches total of small and large. found 3 strictures.
  • Tried 6MP after surgery lost more weight.
  • Crohn's is back already
  • Now restarting Remicade.

Are we having fun yet?
