Hello Everyone,

I am an IBS/GERD sufferer and want to give the SC diet a shot. The theory seems compelling and seems to address my peculiar situation, with one perhaps important exception. I've been controlling the IBS pretty well by means of fiber supplements, including wheat dextrin and psyllium husk. But I can't find any information on whether either of these is permitted under the diet. I'm worried that I will see a quick return of diarrhea without at least one.

I'm guessing that I should drop the dextrin supplement, but don't know about the psyllium husk. Anyone have any information? Thanks in advance if so.

Hi Ferkany,

I'll assume you're referring to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (instead of "selective", however it's the same principle smilewinkgrin )

Unfortunately neither of the supplements you mentioned are "legal" or allowed on the diet. Here's a link to what's legal and illegal on the diet:

You should check out the book if you haven't already. If you're interested there's a yahoo group where you can post questions. The people are really nice and very helpful:

Good luck with the diet. I hope it works well for you!

Thanks for your reply! Yes I've got the book. I sure hope this works--I'm really running out of options.
