New Kid on the Block / 1st Cimzia Injection

Hello Everyone,

This is my first time posting anything on a computer besides an email.  I was diagnosed with Crohns at age 19, and have suffered for almost 30 years. Just like many of you, I have tried many different medications with success on a few till my body builds up a tolerance, starting with Azulfidine, Imuran & Prednisone to the very recent change of Cimzia from Remicade (which worked well for almost 4 years). I have also had several bowel obstructions (too many to count) and 6 surgeries.

 

My question is what are the side effects of Cimzia (I didn't have many on the Remicade, just minor joint pain later in the day on infusion day), how long does it take before the Cimzia starts to take effect?  Right now I am so tired and my joints hurt so bad I can hardly get out of bed most days.

Ive only had small doses of cimzia in a local area with remaining inflammation while still on humira. Didnt notice any side affects thought.

Diagnosed with Rectal-Labial fistula in 10/2006
Currently on Humira - 40mg, every 2 wks (syringe shot)
Have taken 6mp, Asacol (Mesalamine), prednisone(HATE!!!), Remicade, pentesa, Flagyl, Methotrexate, Imuran, Percoset, Sulfasalazine (created allergy reaction to sulfa)
Take daily dose of Align, Calc + Vit D, and Biotin
On SCD

Thanks, that makes me feel better. I'll keep an eye on this and hope and pray I get as long of a stay as I did from the Remicade.

Crohn's Disease for over 35 years. Currently on Asacol, Protonix, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain, Zofran, Phenergan, Probiotics, Calcium, Vit D, and Xanax prn. Resections in 2002 & 2005. Also diagnosed w/ Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis, & Anxiety. Currently my Crohns is in remission, but my joints are going crazy!

Hello and Welcome! I have been on Cimzia for a couple years and for me, it took the full loading doses before I felt better. After about a year it started losing its effectiveness so we added Lialda and I have been doing well since! Here is to a long remission!!

I've also been on Cimzia for a couple of years. I don't have any side effects at all from Cimzia. The only thing I notice is a raised white area around the injection site for a day or so after the injection. That's normal - just the med taking its time to seep into the system. Good luck!

Dx Osteoporosis 10/08 almost done with my 2 years of Forteo 1/27/09 - 1/27/11!!

I'm starting cimzia any day now. Just waiting on the homehealth nurse to schedule a visit to teach me.

Severe Crohn's throughout the colon
Starting Cimzia soon

I stared Cimzia at the end of June, 2010.  By July I had a terrible sinus/upper respiratory infection that lasted until I stopped Cimzia in October (I had take 6 rounds of antibiotics, but nothing helped).  I am currently is a terrible flare and am scheduled to have a colonoscopy on 2/08.  Have been through most meds, including Remicaide, Humira, Cimzia.  Don't know what the next step will be.  I have had Crohn's for over 37 years and I am sooooo done with this disease. 

I just started Cimzia 3 days ago. I ended up just going to my GI's office and having one of the nurses there show me how to do the injections, I didn't feel like waiting around for the Cimzia people to schedule the nurse. It was super easy to do and little to no pain at all. Hoping it kicks in soon and I get some energy back
