My daughter's gastro did not want her taking too many supplements. However, she is on Purinthol which is the same as Mercaptopurine or 6mp. With this drug she has had hair loss and I am seeing where most people on it take a folic acid supplement. I am going to give this to her to see of the hair loss slows down. It has been a lot. She is 90 pounds and the tabets are in 400 mcgs. I see where 800 mcgs is 1 mg. How much do most of you take daily and what is your weight? Also do you experience anything negative from them to watch for. I do see where possible stomach upset is listed.

Thanks so much for your help.

My daughter (23) weighs just under 120 lbs and has taken anywhere from 400-800 mcgs with no side effects.

You're welcome! Now that my daughter is going on Pentasa, she is going to have to take folic acid, too.

I take 1 mg of folic acid in addition to the amount that is in my multivitamin. I weigh about 155lbs.

I weigh 140 and take 800 mcg. It has helped to slow the hair shedding down alot.  And I am the queen of sensitive tummys and it doesn't bother me at all.  Hugs!

I weigh about 125lbs and take 2mg (1600mcg) - I take with my Methotrexate - lower dose wasn't strong enough to combat the mouth sores, hair loss and headaches I was getting so my Rheumy moved me up to 2mg (1600mcg) and now have no problems with it.

1000mcg = 1mg. Not 800 . Just thought I would correct that for you:) Hope you have good luck with it, I did. I took a low dose of 400mcg.
