Hay everyone, so for the past couple of wks my stomach has been gurgling/bubbling a lot. It starts after I eat anything and then just builds up pressure and more pressure til I have to go "D". My times in the bathroom have been extremely embarrassing because they have been really loud which is not normal for me. My stomach is even gurgling and noisy as I'm going. I also get extremely nauseated before I have to go. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on? I would appreciate any input. I'm afraid to go anywhere in case I have to go in public (which would be very embarrassing seeing how it sounds like I'm putting on a tuba concert or something). Anyway thanks so much for listening!

Mine sounds like a coffee perculator but then I have an ileostomy and not much short bowel left. People are used to it now and so I don't get embarrassed, even pipes up when it all goes quiet in meetings, which is kind of interesting for anyone taking minutes.

Might want to check with your GI and see if you a have a possible bacterial overgrowth. I get much like that especially after I eat when I have bacterial overgrowth. Just a thought!

Thank you everyone for your posts. Nanners I will ask my GI. I have had bacterial overgrowth once before a couple years ago and now that you mention it it does feel similar (worse but kinda the same) so I will have to ask them. Thanks again everyone for your comments!

What type of bacteria overgrowth? Does anyone know what bacteria?

We all have good/bad bacteria in our stomachs. Too much of the bad stuff is what IBDs are. IMO (and many others)

Its just an overgrowth of the bad bacteria. I even got mine while on probiotics and after the second time of getting it, I went to a stronger probiotic and haven't had one since. The treatment is 10 days on a antibiotic like Cipro or Flagyl and a stronger probiotic. The treatment knocked it right out me.

For me at least the cause was said to be something that commonly happens to those like myself who have had resections.

Do you find that the bacterial overgrowth recurs pretty frequently? I had the same problem--with gross and really loud gurgling and flatulence--and my GI doc put me on Flagyl. I felt better for a month or six weeks, and then the problem started again. It seems to come and go, a few weeks without the problem and then a couple of weeks with the problem. I tried one OTC probiotic, but it made me (and my daughter, who doesn't have IBD, when I passed the expensive probiotic off to her) really nauseated and ill. What can I do to stave off these symptoms?

You need to find a probiotic that agrees with you. I take Primadolphis Fortify by Natures Way. I have an extremely sensitive stomach and this one really agrees well with me. I take one at bedtime everyday. Hugs!

Nothing can completely stop my gurgles. As long as they don't hurt, I don't worry about them. Well, not now anyway. When I was younger they embarrassed me. The question is what the sounds really are. It could be just the noise your GI tractis making as it pushes the food along or it could be gas. When I've had lots of gas, a few drops of Mylicon drops every now and then helped a lot.

If the small of gas is a real problem then you'll have to look into a probiotic to see if that helps. Although I haven't tried it, I've heard that taking some chlorophyll can stop the bad smell. Some people here have also talked about the benefits of a product called "Just A Drop". Apparently it can really clear the smell from the air in the bathroom, or any place else, I suppose. Good Luck in finding what will work for you.
Keah, who still does not have Crohn's!!!

Not sure if it would help but when i was younger i had issues with intestinal gurgling as well. to the point where it would seem to be the loudest when i was in a quiet meeting with lots of people in a room with excellent echo ability. After some time I realized it was because I:

was consuming a lot of dairy products
drinking a ton of soda or carbonated drinks in general
eating certain veggies
eating lots of fatty food like fast food

if you take some time to google, you'll see that there is quite an extensive list of things to stay away from that can cause gas and gurgling.

hope it helps

I am 69 years old and my stomach has been gurgling constantly for the past month, lots of gas, and I have small bowel movements every time I urinate. Some times the consistancy changes. I have been trying to eat activia but not much of a change. My stomach still sounds like King Kong is in there.

I SuzanRose,
Welcome to HW. This is a very old thread. You might try starting a new topic and introducing yourself. Do you have Crohn's?
