I just wanted to know if anyone here drinks Aloe Vera Juice? I've had UC since september and I swear by it because when I was in the beginning stages without medication taking full effect, I would wake up multiple times at night and take a shot of Aloe Vera Juice and it would settle my stomach, stop the pain and I could go back to sleep. I weaned down from 40mg to 10mg of prednisone in less than a month and was doing great while taking 1-2oz of Aloe Vera Juice a day. I ran out of the juice and had some on backorder. As I got home for break, i weaned down from 10mg to 7.5mg and (along with running out of aloe at the same time) my symptoms started coming back.

I STILL have not received my aloe yet in the mail and its been 3 weeks... but I just feel like thats a small amount of prednisone decrease to cause me to relapse quite a bit...

I've found that this specific brand of Aloe Vera Juice i've been taking "Forever Aloe Vera" is probably the best on the market! And seeing this video on youtube today got me really excited, www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iO-qb1asKQ.

It shows how diluted store brands of Aloe Vera Juice are watered down and lose their enzymes quick next to my preferred brand "Forever Aloe".

...How? I'm not advertising a product i'm sharing what works best for me and maybe to others, and asking if anyone else has tried it? You've seen me post all over the UC forums on a regular basis. Are you a forum moderator?

I drink Aloe Vera juice and love it. I get the Whole Foods kind though so I can just buy it at the store and not order it. Are they all the same? I put a few ounces in a glass of water to drink BUT I have read that too much can cause diarrhea so I am mindful of that. Someone said to me if it works so well from the plant on the outside of your body, imagine all the good things it can do for the inside of your body!

Btw, once I got the flavored pomegranate cranberry kind by accident and didn't realize - I was horrified when I started to pour it since I was expecting a clear liquid :)

I tried it for a couple weeks and didn't notice any difference. I was drinking 1/2c mixed with pomegranate juice (1c) and water (1c). I was told sipping on it throughout the day was most effective. I still have a bottle at home so I should try it again.

From what I know about it, its best to have a small amount on an empty stomach because it needs a few minutes to alkalize your stomach without having food in there. It levels your pH balance, so for those of you with Chrons/UC and also acid indigestion (like me) this is great for that. It's best to make sure whatever the brand of aloe vera juice, that its organic and whole leaf.

I'm meeting with my doctor today to get a second opinion on whether it was really lowering my prednisone dose by 2mg or stopping aloe vera that made all of my symptoms come back...

The kind that I get is organic and whole leaf but that's good advice about drinking it on an empty stomach. Depending on what I do to help make/keep myself well has a lot to do with that and I forget sometimes! :) (like yoga on an empty stomach, pain meds with a small meal, apple cider vinegar & water on an empty stomach, etc. - it all works differently depending on what I have eaten and at what time of the day, morning vs. night, etc.)

No luck with ACV (we've tried it, you're supposed to use the kind with the "mother" in it) but as for Aloe, we've used Georges in gallons with no postive or negative result. The other day my husband came across a pubmed study which happened to use this brand "Forever" to treat UC. I believe they had about a 30% remission rate? So, we'll try it. However, be sure NOT to use a whole leaf aloe product - they aolin (external leaf) can cause diarrhea and it must be removed to treat IBD. Forever clearly states that they remove the external and yellow leaf. Or at least, that's what I found?

Interesting that they found about a 30% remission rate.
That rate (30%) pops up frequently as the remission rate for placebos when drug trials are done.
So a 30% remission rate is no better than placebo.

Yep, you're right, it was better than placebo.
But keep in mind this was for mild to moderate UC only (not Crohn's).
And it was a single study (hasn't been replicated).
And it was a very small group.

So it has some promise but this study is only the first step in determining whether it's useful.

yeah, I agree, but it's relatively easy to try and should be fairly harmless right? just thought of the study after seeing this thread.
