First let me tell you about me. I have had bowel problems since I was 17 I am now 48 and over and over I have been told its IBS.
My symptoms
  • Multiple bathroom trips can be over 20 a day and though the night
  • Mucus
  • Urgency
  • cramping
  • gas
  • bloating
  • lactose intolerant
  • sometimes blood but not a lot
  • I have 3 tears on my rectum (always thought they were due to child birth Dr doesnt think so)
  • Diarhea or loose stool
  • Blisters in mouth
  • Indigestion
  • chronic Anemia last Hemoglobin 6.8

So now I hopefully am on on way to getting a diagnosis so I can get the correct medicine My Dr ordered labs and he ordered test for auto immune diseases I am currently taking prednisone for Sinus inflamation which by the way pretty much stops almost all those symptoms above. Does anyone know if Prednisone will effect the blood test results for auto immune diseases?

TIA

Prednisone should lower inflammation which would result in an inaccurate blood test. The gold standard for diagnosis of an inflammatory bowel disease is biopsies taken during colonoscopy. Have you been scoped? Have you had a small bowel follow through? Have you had an abdominal CT or MRI? Swallowed a pill camera?

No I am scheduled to see a Gastro in 4 weeks where my MD says I need a colonscopy. We are also currently going to address my Anemia. I guess will start with the colonscopy and then work from there. I have something I just dont know what I have way to much stuff going on with my digestive system. Maybe I should call my Dr and remind him I am on prednisone and wait to do my labs when I get off which is Saturday.

The doctor can order a Prometheus IBD sgi Diagnostic. The results wont be as swayed by prednisone usage. Some people dont find the Prometheus test completely accurate but I think it can give a good indication.

He ordered Code number 716.90 with quest diagnostics which when I googled it it says Arthropathy and there is a whole host of things that fall under this but specifically Chrones and Colitis.  I also noticed he's testing me for Lupus as well.

716.90 is a Diagnosis Code that means:

716.9 Arthropathy, unspecified

[0-9]

Arthritis, (acute) (chronic) (subacute)

Arthropathy, (acute) (chronic) (subacute)

Articular rheumatism, (chronic)

Inflammation of joint, NOS

The 0 means the site is not specified.

That is not a code to order a specific test but rather a diagnosis that justifies why a test is ordered. Do you happen to know which test he ordered? That will be listed as a CPT or HCPS code.

The information for the code I posted I got from the internet thay was a code for quest that he wrote on the order everything else he is ordering he filled in little circles I know one is for Lupus also. When he handed me the lab orders he told me that he included test for Auto imune he it includes Chrones and Colitis

Yes Anemia has been a big problem for me in 1999 I went to the Dr low sex drive diarhea, cramps and then my Hemoblobin was 7.4 that Dr I was seeing said to take 2 slofee with Vitiman C problem is Iron pill in any form upset my stomach and make my behind burn when it comes out. He told me my problem was low seritonin
I have been Anemic for a very long time there are a few times I was able to get it up to 9 with pill but Its always a struggle. My body just does not absorb Iron from any sorce I will probably end up with Infusions or a blood transfusion. I welcome either one I want to know what it like to feel better.

I know for a fact I have been misdiagnosed for a long long time.

I just want to tell you guys it feels good to have someone to talk to about this I am totaly alone on this one. I have been reading the board and there is a lot of good information and not that I want anyone else to experience anything that Ive gone through its just nice to know im not alone.

Thanks

The ANA is the Anti-Nuclear Antibody which is used for auto-immune tests. The Sed Rate is used to measure inflammation.

Hi mom and welcome to the forums.

Sorry to hear how you've had issues for so long with a possibility of an incorrect diagnosis. I am glad you will get a full battery of tests to determine exactly what is wrong, so you may be treated accordingly. We often tell people that it's just as important for a GI to rule out conditions since they may produce similar symptoms to Crohn's. Example; Ucerative Colitis which may also cause abdominal cramping and diarrhea.

There's a thread here that discusses tests to discover if one has Crohn's and medications that are used to treat it.

You're right, you're definitely not alone and some of us have had these type problems for a very long time too. Always feel free to reach out with any questions.
Best of luck with the tests. :-)
