Has anyone experienced hair loss while using stelara? I had my first dose of 390 units via the infusion center. I will be getting my injections and doing them at home. The next one is now on 6/28. However, I usually have hair loss but not as much as I have now. I wash my hair and I have chunks coming out or should I say not from the scalp but breakage. My hair looks horrible. It is very dry and brittle with alot of breakage. Can someone plz comment on this and tell me if my hair will eventually stop breaking. I had hair past my shoulders and now it looks like it is above my shoulders.

Hair loss is a tricky one with IBD as you can get it with or without medications. During flares, we can often become malnourished, anemic, or low in vitamins B or D any of which can lead to hair loss. Hair loss is often a delayed reaction to a flare, it can happen several months into a flare, rather than at the onset. Every class of medication for IBD lists hair loss as a potential side effect, even though all of those medications have very different active ingredients and methods of working, which makes me think the medications aren't solely to blame. Hairloss should slow, stabilize, and regrowth should begin in time assuming the underlying problem is now resolved. It could take a few months, as these things are often delayed by a few months. Be patient, and it cannot hurt to get a blood test to see if you are still anemic or not. Good luck!

I have been on Stelara since March 9th of this year, 2017, YES hair loss, and major acid reflux.I'm do for a scope soon. You can call Jannessen the company who makes Stelara and ask them about this side effect, they will let you know if others have reported it.

yes hair loss, shedding like a dog getting ready for its winter coat. It's terrible! I'm stopping it, it has not helped me except aches and pains. No improvement in bowels
