Hi again and thank you to all who have given input as to my previous post (IBS or Crohns?)  I have been doing a lot of reading, and I have an appt. with the GI tomorrow - I'm a nervous wreck about it, really fearing that the end diagnosis is going to be Crohn's, the more I read.  Now I have a new question - can you explain/describe skin tags, and how they differ from hemmeroids?    I have had "something" down there for several years, and just assumed I was weird that way (ha) - They are kind of clustered around the anus, and about the size of small earlobes I guess - they do not hurt, and do not bleed, except I do have small "splits" which I'm fearing are fissures - they sometimes bleed, (the splits) small specks of blood on the tissue when wiping, and they burn when I have D. Other than that, there is no pain or bleeding from the "lobes".  I am just wondering about skin tags, if this could be what I have had all the time, just didn't know it.   Thanks for your help - I am glad I found this board.

not to mean or sound bad..but have you been checked for HPV?? its very common...1 in 4 people have it and it causes something similar...look/or google pics of HPV and then you can compare

GL I hope u find out what it is and get it taken care of

Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength

Diagnosed with severe Crohn's colitis in May 2005. I deal with daily arthritis ALL over my body, cystic acne, & fibromyaglia. Have taken Imuran, Remicade, TPN, Colozal, Entocort, Flagyl, PamineForte, Cipro, Dicyclomine, Prednisone, Asacol, Prevacid, and the list goes on. Taking low amounts of Pred now & 3600mg of Asacol currently...Can't wait till I can get back on Remicade, my miracle drug!

That does sound like skin tags. Do a search for "skin tags" and you should see a post by pb4. She posted links to a website with actual photos that many people found very helpful.
Good luck!
36 year old female. Dx'd and undx'd a few times. Was just redx'd again 04/2007.
History of rectal abscesses and fistulas (28 surgeries including abscess I & D, exploratory surgeries, 2 C-ton drains and 1 fistula plug) Count does not include self bursting abscesses.
1st Remicade infusion 6/5/07.  Lots of joint pain, and a new fistula since the 2nd infusion 6/19.
Praying I'll get better soon so we can have a baby.

It sounds like skin tags to understanding is skin tags are dead tissue..whereas hemmeroids are still 'live' tissue..just skin tags sound just like yours(littles earlobes..clustered around the anus)..i dont not have i was just checked thoughly due to me recent skin tags came on as little hemmies and over the years and flares have gotten bigger and bigger and now just stay about the same size flaring or not..somtimes they will bleed just alittle..and very rarely hurt me anymore..they are horribly ugly to me!!..I do feel your pain tongue

The surgeon who did my hemroid surgery told me I had anal warts caused by HPV.  This was before my Crohn's diagnosis.  Skin tags are skin tags.  The only way to tell for sure if they were caused by HPV (according to that doctor, and granted he was a serious butthead) is to biopsy them.  If you have Crohn's, that's most likely where they came from.

I tired to find the post here ar HW where I put the link for those pictures and I cannot for the life of me find if a mod or anyone eles could step in to find it and re-post it that would be great...then I'll copy it into my favorits...

What you are describing mississippi girl does sound like perianal crohns skin tags.

To my understanding perianal crohns skin tags are diseased tissue and that's why if you have them cut off the skin won't heal properly.
