I haven't. Although if you are healing ulcerations in the small intestine, you could be absorbing nutrients better.

sorry. :-(

I have expereinced it and I have no disease in my intestines so it's not becasue my intestines are getting better :-)
I believe it is bloat and constipation in my case. My constipation has been so much worse since starting remicade!
I have gained 6 lbs. since 6/5/07 and I am not skinny. I am getting fat though!
36 year old female. Dx'd and undx'd a few times. Was just redx'd again 04/2007.
History of rectal abscesses and fistulas (28 surgeries including abscess I & D, exploratory surgeries, 2 C-ton drains and 1 fistula plug) Count does not include self bursting abscesses.
1st Remicade infusion 6/5/07.  Lots of joint pain, and a new fistula since the 2nd infusion 6/19.
Praying I'll get better soon so we can have a baby.

I am interested in this topic too because I'm getting ready to start Remicade. I've recently lost 47 pounds that I really needed to lose. I really don't want to gain any weight. I know that sounds vain but I'm so happy that I at least am not worried about what I look like right now.

I'm interested to see just how many people have gained on Remicade.

Currently 3 x per day 1000mgs Pentasa, Aciphex, Lortab, Ambien, Librax (for spasms) & VSL#3 (for probiotics) or activia yogurt, back on the prednisone (10mgs this week) and Entocort (9mgs).

Headed back down the CT, SBFT road for a potential SBO.  Great.

I have recently started Remicade and gained some weight, BUT I think it is mainly because I am still taking Predinsone with my treatments. Are you only on the Remicade?

MMAC, Wife & Mother of 3 (14, 13 & 7) - Diagnosed w/CD June05 (terminal ileum)

Asacol (8 daily), Imuran (150mg), Prenisone (15mg), Lunesta (3mg), Phenergan (when needed) - Remicade as of 7/24

I work out regularly(6 days per week! weights and LOTS of cardio) and eat very healthy and still gained weight-6 lbs. but I still say it's from constipation(for me) since I don't have intestinal problems. :-)

I gained too much weight while being on Remicade. I gained about 25 lbs. that was defenently NOT needed. I hate the way my body looks now. I try to lose weight and i eat very healthy but it seems no matter what i cant shed a lb. I am ALWAYS bloated and constipated to the point where when i eat something(even something small) my stomach grows 2 inches. Im not sure if this is due to Remicade or Remicade and 6-mp but i wish it would go away. any advise?

Guys!!! You are all so silly. I've been on Remicade for years, but really started my weight gain after being diagnosed. Once they fix you, you start eating more because it doesnt hurt to eat and your body absorbs more because you dont have constant/instant D.

So I've gained about 60 lbs (the first half I needed) since starting remicade, but I ASSURE you it is from eating too much. :)))
32 years old. Diagnosed in 2002ish.
Taking Asacol, Lomotil TID, and on Remicade since 2004.
Lower Bowel area only, except for the short stint (about 2 weeks) that I had mouth sores.  Also have external/anal fistula and anal/vaginal fistula.

Sorry, Mishball-that's not my problem. I have no stomach issues. My disease is only in my rectal area.

I actually feel worse since taking remicade and my workouts are not as good because of the muscle aches and joint pain. Hmmmm......That may actually be why.....I'm not eating more but I'm also not able to work out as much.  Thanks!

I had lost about 20 lbs prior to remicade from being so sick. Since being on remicade I have gained it all back plus a few pounds. I am sure part of it was due to the fact I had no self control once I started feeling better. I was so excited to eat, I ate to much!

Ginger,
I'm sorry to hear that it seems worse than I expressed.

I did not mean stomach issues, I meant the same as want_2_be_well, but she expressed it better.

I hope you feel better soon,.

Mishball- :-) Your post made me realized it is my declining activity that is the reason why I am probably gaining. You helped me! :-)

Thanks again!

It is kind of funny to see all these comments because I have been asking myself the same question.  I have gained about 25lbs since starting Remicade.  I have been eating well and I am active.

I understand that my body is better and I am absorbing more.  But to this point?

I have had 9 infusions and I find myself wondering how I will keep the weight off!

Karine :-)

Just imagine if they made us take Pred too! I'm doing all I can to stay off it. With my luck, I'll finally manage to get 30 lbs off and they'll have to put me on it.

I have only had 2 infusions, but no weight gain yet. I also am still having diarrhea so who knows how long I will be on it.

Ginger- I am like you... work out 6 days a week, LOTS of cardio and weights. Usually spend about 2 hours there a day, even when I feel exhausted I drag myself there and I end up always feeling a lot better when I am done. Sometimes I have to jump off the machine to go have diarrhea, but oh well. Also I have noticed I have less diarrhea AFTER I work out everyday... making most of my diarrhea in the morning and early afternoon...

Yesterday and today the gym was closed for "annual somethingerother" and I have been left to my lame workout DVDs!

take care

Definiately weight gain for me.  Been on Remicade almost 3 years, I exercise and watch what I eat, but gained a good 20 pounds.  But, I would rather have the extra 20 and be able to leave the house and function, so it's worth it.  I couldn't function with constant diahrea.  My doctor says it's not from Remicade or Methotrexate, but I'm pretty sure it is.
