most of you know my year and a half history of cronic pain, diagnosis and possible undiagnosis of CD. I had my first upper scope today and all it showed was unspecified gastritis. he took biopsies. I don't know anything about that; any ideas?
take care you all! yp
48 y/o woman.  Diagnosed 4/06 after colonscopy, SBFT, CT-scan all showed crohns. 3 months later, after pred and remicade, all tests showed no crohns. In December had adhesions cut through a laparoscopy. Now just taking Glycolax, metamucil, and prevacid...living with pain, but doing ok.

One thing I suspect they will definitely look for is H. pylori infection, the bacteria that causes most stomach ulcers and can lead to gastric cancer. Otherwise, I imagine they always take biopsies with scopes, since as long as you're in there, it makes sense to see what cellular processes may be underway.

Gastritis, which is inflammation in the stomach, can be caused by Crohn's. But it can be caused by any number of things. such as a stomach virus. I know I've had gastritis with my worse flares, but haven't been actually dx'd as having CD in my stomach, so I'm not sure what the relation is.

Your biopsies will hopefully give you some idea. You've been through the ringer with the back and forth diagnoses. But I know people, myself included, that can have scopes that will show nothing unless we are flaring big time. But the chronic pain from arthritis and adhesions, the eye disease, and my little fistula "buddy" tell another story.
48 yr. old. Ileocolitis.  CD since early teens, misdx'd until age 36.  Hemicolectomy-left side in 2001.  Disease returned in 2003. Arthritis, episcleritis, chronic pain due to surgeries (nerve damage, adhesions) and disease.  Recently dx'd scoliosis.  History of endometriosis.

thanks, I was so sick after my scope that I don't even know what I was asking, so I am glad you figured it out! Just being put under I end up with a killer headache and vomit all day. I am fine today!
I will hear next week about the biopsies, so I will report in. is it very common to show crohns in the stomach?

Crohns in the stomach and duodenum is very rare. Only 5% of people with Crohns have it in their stomach. I once thought I had Crohns in my stomach, but it turned out to just be part of my acid reflux and I think some gastritis.
Been living with Crohn's Disease for 32 years.  Currently on Asacol, Prilosec 60 mg, Estrace, Prinivil, Diltiazem, Percoset prn for pain and Calcium.  Resections in 2002 and 2005.  Recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and doing tests to see if I have Inflammatory Arthritis or AS.
