Hey guys,
I finally got around to buying some orange juice and then couldn't remember what vitamins/minerals/supplements are absorbed better with oj then other drinks. Please advise!
CD since 10/2005
Asacol 2 pills 3 times daily
 Imuran 75 mg once daily
Prednisone 40 mgs daily; I am on a short dose this time, thank goodness.
40 mgs for week 1, 30 mgs for week 2, 20 mgs for week 3, then 10 mgs for week 4 then done!
 Lomotil as needed for cramps and D
B-12 supplement 1 mg daily
Levoxyl (Thyroid)

i know iron is absorbed better with oj because thats how my doctor has me take my 3 iron pills a day.
dx in oct 2006
entocort ec 9mg 1xday
remicade 10mg per kilo every 6-8 weeks
phenagren every 8 hours
dycyclomine 20mg 3xday
iron 325mg 2xday
calcium supplement
hydrocodone/apap 5mg/500mg 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hours
hydroxyzine 25 mg 1 tab every 4-6 hours
glycopyrrolate 2 mg every 8-12 hours

Calcium is also better absorbed with orange juice.

I'm surprised you can drink orange juice....with iron supplements no less. I can't take either without getting severe abdominal pain and cramping, nausea and vomiting. Kudos to you who can tolerate it....calcium does a number on my stomack as well.

Vitamin C helps Iron absorb better into the body.

When my 1st child was almost 1 year he was severely low in iron. His Dr told me to give him OJ with his iron supplement. Also he said there is vitamin c in ketchup so I started giving it to him with every meal so the iron in the meat would absorb better. I created a monster though cause he is almost 10 years old and he loves ketchup :-)

I have noticed I can't drink much OJ. It makes me get D and cramps sometimes. i can have some with food though. if I try to have it alone I get into trouble.

Diagnosed w/  Fibromyalgia May 2007 also on Cyclobenzaprine (generic of Flexeril)

Also taking Multivitamins, B Vitamis, Biotin, and Extra Folic Acid. (might add more when I do more research)
