I was diagnosed last summer with what the gi doc thought was cdiff (turns out it was definitely crohns disease because my cat scan showed narrowing of the ti which c.diff can't do).  I had one positive cdiff test and all the rest are negative.  I am concerned that there are spores still waiting to erupt inside of me with any antibiotics. I am currently on rifaximin.  Does everyone get cdiff with crohns?  I noticed they use cipro and flagyl sometimes to treat this disease.  I am afraid of the cipro since that is what I was on when I tested positive for c.diff.  C.diff is a nasty infection and I am very worried about it in combination with the crohns.  Hoping someone else out there has had to deal with both and can give some words of wisdome.

I've only ever had one bad case of cdiff and I've had CD for 19 years. If you're worried about the anti-biotics weaking the flora in your gut, why not take some probiotics? Like plain old acidophilus. That might be a way to combat a possible cdiff problem. There are some probiotic strains that specifically target those kinds of bacteria. If you google it, you'll find more info than you ever wanted. Hope that helps a little.

Cipro gave me c-diff too. I only use Flagyl now for bowel infections. I have used penicillin for 1 week and also a z-pk in the past with no c-diff re-occurance .
