I got in samples of 2 different wound drainage samples from hollister that I ordered a cpl weeks ago when my fistual had started. It had cleared up and was just pus so I just kept with the gauze bandages. This past Monday the fistula broke thru again, the depth is 1 cm deeper than it was initialy when I went to the doc for it. The width had gone down 1 cm but has since gone up .5 cm. I had to have a CT today plus the feces draining out had increased making me have to change the gauze 3 times yesterday. I had to do it 3 times just while at work today.
I decided to use the one that has the material similar to the flange material. I cut the hole a little bigger than it had to be and I used a small amount of adapt paste under it. I also used no sting barrier wipes on the skin before placement. The bag is pretty big especially for me being so tiny. The drain tube actually reaches the crotch of my pants. I will inform my surgeon about me using this bag to see if he agrees with it. I just cannot stand being in the work restroom for 15 plus minutes changing the dressing and watching it wet fart and spray across the bathroom. Also it took the gauze that was on me (2 4x4 and a 2x2 parthially inside the hole). I started using left over tegaderm to help since it oozed thru the tape and all yesterday while I was at work. I figure I will test this out overnight therefore if there are any problems I can always go back to my old method.
I also have the other samples but the backing is fabric so I know it will ooze thru it and will most likely not be of any help. At least this way I can also calculate the amount of drainage I am gettingout in a 24 hour period while keeping a log of what I eat and drink within that time frame. I also have sheets of the plastic they give you for wound vacs if I have to end up using that. I just fear that the hole may close over with nothing inside the hole to keep it open. The feces was so heavy though that at times it pulled the gauze that was in the hole out anyway. Hopefully with using thise tongiht maybe Ill get more than 2 hours sleep.
healding to bed and hoping I hear my results tomorrow since I am supposed to do my 2 pens of humira. Guess If I dont hear back from him I can call my GI and maybe he can obtain the records whether the CT revealed it is just a fistula or if there is an abscess as well. The pain is so bad I cannot wear a seatbelt, hurts to cough...sneeze etc
