A few hours after posting last night about taking antibiotics for my sinus infection I became very ill. Lots of pain and I've must have had D at least 30 times. Now there is nothing left coming out but bits of blood.

I called my GI first thing this morning and spoke with his nurse. She thinks it could be even from that one dose of antibiotic. She said they gave me a very powerful one, and not good for Crohn's. But she's talking to the doctor on call today and is supposed to get back to me. That was about a half hour ago, I hope she calls soon. I have a feeling they are going to just tell me to go to the ER. But I dont know. If so I may need to take an ambulance. I'm in a lot of pain and no one is here to drive me (DH is at work and will come home for me, but not sure I'll want to wait if that's what they say to do).

I feel like a mac truck has run me down. My guts are so sore and every 15 minutes I'm having terrible spasms. I'm really scared.

Just wanted to update. The doctor is putting me on a probiotic (which is good, probably have been needing that anyway). He still wants me to take the antibiotic. But I'm scared to. Even with the probiotic, I don't want to feel this sick again. So not sure what to do about that. I mean what are we supposed to do when we need an antibiotic?

Glad they didn't advise the ER, even though not long ago I really felt like I needed to. Doing a little better, going to replace all this fluids that I lost. I just don't know what to do with this stinkin sinus problem. My guts are still spasming, but at least no more D or blood. Hopefully I get it to calm down and just sleep today.

Thanks for all the well wishes, I really appreciate it. Sometimes this just gets to be too hard.

Jen,
Gee, I'm feeling for you honey. Whenever I have to take antibiotics for a sinus infection , I usually end up also taking Tyleno#3, for pain....and which happily slows down the D as well, and Gravol . It's the only way I can get thru it. Yogurt helps but I wouldn't be able to stomach that either without the gravol.
Someone suggested I take immodium while on my anitbiotic. Have you ever asked your doctor about Lomotil or something of the sort to slow down your D. I can't see the anitbiotic doing much good if it doesn't stay in your system longer than a few minutes.Just a thought?
Best of luck....you are in my thoughts and prayers

I had suggested steroid nasal sprays on your other post. That usually clears up my sinus infections though it takes a little longer than traditional antibiotics. Would it be possible to have your antibiotics injected so as to avoid the gut all together? It would be a pain in the but going to the doctor every day for 2 weeks but its better than causing a flare.
