It has been 8 wks on pentasa, entocort and rifaximin.  I have an appointment the end of Nov. at Mayo to figure out this liver disease caused by my crohns called PBC.  I am still having all my crohns symptoms similiar to the day I was diagnosed 8 wks ago except for the right lower pain which is gone.  The diarrhea, rumbling, stomach pain is all still there and I have had enough of trying to figure out what bothers my stomach because it seems everything does.  I see the GI doc Monday for an MRCP.  My last CAT scan still shows active crohns in ti.  Has anyone had a short course of steroids to get them over the hump. What would a short course be?   We didn't want to start 6mp or remicade until this PBC diagnosis is figured out since everything is metabolized in the liver, but I am so tired of the pain and need relief.
Hoping for some help.

You're stuck between a rock and a hard place. It's going to be hit or miss finding a drug that works for you and that will be easier on your liver. I'm going through testing now to see if I have PSC and it makes me nervous about the future of treating this disease (not to mention the long term problems associated with liver disease).

Depending on what your doctors say about the Prednisone affecting the liver, it may work better for you to get relief from your symptoms, at least until they can figure out what else they can use. Some people get no relief from the Entocort but the Prednisone works well. Of course, it will usually be temporary relief. I think though, that the Prednisone affects your liver more than the Entocort.

Good luck and let us know how it's going, I'll be thinking of you.

Six resection surgeries, permanent ostomy, adverse reactions to Remicade finally off of Prednisone, back on 6MP for maintenance, hoping for a long remission from this last surgery.
