Hi Went to GI today and took me off Rem. and Imuran now wants me on 20 mgs. pred. my glucose was getting messed up that's why I am off it. I am waiting results of another glucose test. Dr. wants me to take pred anyway and something for my glucose if needed. Wow is my head ever doing some fighting here. Not sure what to think anymore .He might see about Hum . since he says the Rem is not controlling my D. I mentioned that on another post. Have not swallowed down any pred. my mind is putiing up a fight on that one. lol gail

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! I hate Pred too!! Are you on alot on antibiotics for your pneumonia? Couldn't they be the cause of the increased D? Just curious if you are taking probiotics with your antibiotics? Anyways, sure hope you can get feeling better soon. Having D and pneumonia must have you feeling like your coming and going in different directions. Get well soon!

Yikes, pred made me a very irritable person. My wife said it was like living with the Hulk. ("Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry.") Although it did have its advantages when she had me settle a cell-phone billing dispute :)

I'm sorry Remicade is not working for you.

To clarify your post, which drug were you on when you started having glucose issues, Remicade or Prednisone?

I'm not sure why he wouldn't put you on the Humira right away if that's what you're going to do eventually. When I looked into the Humira, it wouldn't have taken me very long to get it at all, it was just way too expensive the way my insurance was going to cover it (or not cover it in this case).

If you're worried about the side effects of the Prednisone, tell him no, you don't want to risk diabetes. It's your decision.

I know that sometimes Prednisone is a necessary evil, but my biggest fear also is getting diabetes, it's so hard to control. What were your issues with glucose? How high was it getting? So far I haven't had issue with my glucose, but if I did, I wouldn't touch the Pred.

My opinion only Gail. Everyone needs to do what's best for them, but I can see why your mind is fighting the idea.

Six resection surgeries, permanent ostomy, adverse reactions to Remicade finally off of Prednisone, back on 6MP for maintenance, hoping for a long remission from this last surgery.

Never make a woman mad when she's on Pred.

My doctor said he wanted me back on pred if I ever flare. I couldn't believe him. Pred gave me diabetes. "I said I couldn't, I would get out of control." He said I'd be only out of control if I don't control it. I guess that would mean I'd be back on insulin. I finally wean myself off of it and am hoping to get totally off diabetes meds shortly. I've stopped taking it last week so I can have a CT scan done tomorrow. My BG has been ticking upwards. I kind of like the control and freedom that the diabetes meds gives me especially since I don't have any energy to exercise. I can't believe that I miss going to the YMCA.

Hi Thanks everyone. I was on pred., rem and Imuran when my glucose went up but I don't know how high. The PG didn't say. Vicky If you are on the diabetes drugs can you get back off them. The way I look at it what's the sense of getting diabetes if I am not going to be on pred for long I don't know how long I would have to be on it. Do you guys know if you have to take other meds with the Hum.?I am really upset about all this as well as other things that have gone on lately which are kind of personal are playing on my mind. I think I still have one, this week has been stressfull. I was thinking the meds might have contributed to the D.too but he said I had D last time I was in before the cold and meds.Plus there is the fact that I have the pnuemonia while on the Rem to think about. Anyone want to borrow my brain for a few days? How about you Hulk? Sure loving yah's all the more. lol gail

Oh Gail-

You're having as much fun as me aren't you. I would stay off the pred as long as I could without the the Rem & Immuran. I fear this to as I am already predisposed with hypoglycemia. I am doing the Humira, Imuran & my pred taper is down to 10mg. Friday is humira day and I've been flaring since Monday, I hope just from work stress & the cold. I don't think you have to take other meds with the humira....just what works for "each" of us. Pleasssse stay in close contact with you doctor right now. You have way too much going on.
