so right now i am on medicade and i was so excited becasue i am able to work about 2 days a week. the docs say to take it slow and only do about that much and becasue its subsititute teaching its not a steady job. and my parents just decided that since i am working i should start to pay rent which i dont blame them for at all, i should contribute. but i called my caseworker to find out how much money i can make and its ridiculously low, it would be equal to the amount that i would be paying my parents for rent. but i need to do that in order to stay on any state health plan they have. so now i have an appt with a different caseworker to get on a different health plan on monday and this is all so stupid and complicated. i need this medical insurance like we all do what with all the doc visits and meds and my current caseworker yelled at me on the phone and said now he has to lok into my case and its possible that it will be cancelled. and it can take up to 2 months to get this other plan.
i just dont need this right now, i have too much going on health wise its just another thing i have to worry about and im just so upset by this. i try to contribute to society and get back out into the world for the first time in 2 years and this is what it gets me.

UGH

Bunny - If I recall you are in NY right? If you make to much for medicade you might still qualify for Family Health Plus, I believe a single adult can make about $11,000 a year and qualify and it is good coverage. The only other thing NY has is Healthy NY and don't let anyone tell you that that is good coverage because it is barely better than no insurance. MB

I certainly understand wanting to work.  But do you HAVE to?  Since it's substitute teaching, can you just withdraw your name until you get the medicare stuff figured out?  The insurance is probably worth more- both dollar value and peace of mind- than a few days of subbing.  The red tape must be a nightmare.  I wish you luck.

hey BP...I was going to say what both above me said. I am actually in the insurance world for my job---please don't despise all of us :-)
MB is right about Healthy NY. It is not worth even considering with the limitations in coverage. Check out the CMS website for NY state---I can't rem the address since I don't usually handle cases in the state of NY (I live here, but I don't work on cases in this state). They should give you a good description of the plans and eligibility.

Look at that...three Western NYers all in one post!!! I feel so much less alone here in healingwell now. I am going to the local CCFA meeting tonight. Maybe think about looking into one out in the Bflo area to see if anyone there has any good local ideas.

thanks guys for your help. i made a meeting with a caseworker to check out family helath plus next week and see if i can get on that. i was just frustrated. i want to work towards being a teacher, its what i passionately want to do and theres going to be an opening in the school im subbing at in the fall. so im keeping my head in there. what im going to have to do is really stick to the limits of how much i can make and how many days i can acceot to sub.

:) and dont worry i dont hate insurance people it just hit me all at once aith my current caseworker telling me hes going to review my case. it freaked me out becasue if i get dropped then i could be without insurance until the next one kicks in. that just scares the heck out of me.

but anyhow thank you for your responses and for listening to my rant. i needed to let it out.

Bunny, have you been getting any disability payments to help out while you've been to sick to work? I feel for you having to deal with stupid insurance companies and their rules, restrictions and red tape, it's just additional stress that you definately don't need-just adds to already damaged immune system. Good luck dealing with the caseworker, I hope this one doesn't yell at you...haha. Take care!

Don't forget, if you really are in their for networking purposes, being going a few times a week as an aide or tutor will accomplish the same purpose. The volunteer work I did in college not only helped me get a job but I started w/ higher pay b/c of my experience. So sub away and fill in the gaps w/ volunteering.
