just thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself.  My name is Mel and I am 41 yrs old.  I was diagnosed last year in Oct. by a colonoscopy.  I am sure I have had Crohns for years, just not diagnosed.  Mine is still pretty mild thank goodness.  I am on Asacol 2 pills 3x a day. Seems to keep me out of flares so far.  Although since July I have been facing a possible breast cancer issue and things have been pretty stressful. Keeping my fingers crossed.
My problem is this; I have NO appetite at all.  I have lost around 30-35 pounds in the last 6 months or so.  Not that I couldn't stand to loose it, but dang.  I am now down to a size 8 and still losing.  How do you get yourself to eat???????  I find myself hungry but nothing sounds good.  If I fix something and take a bite and it isn't what I want I just can't force it down. sad
How do you gain an appetite?

Hi and welcome! I only tend to lose my appetite in Flares and because of the problem of mal-nutrition, I always have my Ensure bottles handy. They might not make you hungry but atleast you know that you are getting most of the nutrients that you need. Hope it helps!

It's really important that you get as much nutrition in you as you's normal to not feel hungry due to this DD, but because of this DD we don't abosrb nutrients very well which can lead to other health issues...getting a juicer to at least drink some nutrients down is better then can be a viscious circle because when you do get an appetite it might be for "junky foods" and that's just a disaster for your health and the disease itself.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it!  LOL  :)

If you can tolerate exercise, a good workout always makes me hungry.

Otherwise, I just eat b/c I know I have to.

I had this problem during Year one of my dxed LIFE With IBD. Unfortunately, the medical answer was prednisone..
Anyway, I also use Ensure during flares. And force myself to eat. Try smaller portions & snack a little. That is what I eventually did. Works fairly well.
