Okay i have had fistula's pop open 3 times.  But unfortunetly, i have never seen what it looked like before it popped open.  I have a seton in right now, but with pain in my rectum for a while, i have been looking down there with a mirror upside down to see if i can see anything.  I just looked and i can see right next to my butt hole, there is a tract looking, bulge thing sticking out.  When i touch it, it feels itchy, and a little pain.  I don't want to freak out but i'm afraid this might be another fistula about to pop open. It's on the opposite side of my butt from the open fistula i have now.  Does anyone know what it looks like before it forms?  And if it is another one should i go to er or just sit around and wait for it to burst,  please help  =[

Hmmm, it doesn't sound good. It does sound like it might be another fistula, unfortunately! I think I am going to stop coming here....everybody is getting fistulas lately, and I don't want another one! LOL!

Personally, I don't go to the er for mine. But obviously if the pain gets so bad that you need meds, then you need to go. I would soak in the tub of the hottest water you can stand, and as often as you have time for, and hopefully, it will break through soon.

What meds are you on?

prednisone, cipro, prevaid, pentasa and some pain meds.  It's funny about the bath thing cuz last night i took a hot bath and it was after that, that i noticed it.  Now this morning the bulging tract looks like it's gone down, i mean you can still see it but it isn't pronounced as much.  Does taking the bath help it to pop open?   And i deceided to last night too that i wouldn't go to the er cuz there is prob. nothing they can do anyways, and when it opens I should feel better so i will just wait it out.

Hi Sorry you are having these issues. I don't know what you should do if it burst threw. I would call the er if I was really worried. Are you having a high temp. or anything? Did you need meds for your last one that came? I would let your GI know about it. Perhaps others will jump in and help with this . Hang in there and let us know how things go. lol gail

my fistulas appear like a bubble ready to pop. Mine are on my belly so it is easier to see. When I would tap my finger on the bump it would make a thumping noise
