Haven't heard from you Judy in a couple of days.  Was checking to see if you are okay or if you had been evacuated.  I am here in San Diego too, and luckily I have been okay and haven't been evacuated.  Hope all is well with you and the fires haven't affected you or you not ill.  Let us know when you can how you are doing.

God Bless

Ditto that, Gail. I noticed I wasn't seeing her name. Glad you safe!
This is real heartbreaking stuff we're seeing on TV. I wonder how many more disasters this country can take...

Tess, if I remember her profile correctly, there's nothing personal on there, not even an e-mail address.
Sorry hun, I would if I could. Let's all hope we're worrying for nothing.....

Wow, it's really nice to see I was missed and thought of.

I've been at my in-laws, packing them and waiting for orders to evacuate. They live Alpine and it's usually one of the first places to be evacuated during a fire. As you know, my father-in-law is ill and there's a lot of equipment to move if evacuated. Turns out it was one of the safest places in the county to be. It never even got smokey up there until yesterday.

Of course during the first (or second, I can't remember) night I was awakened to a news break saying MY town was evacuated. My husband went back down to our house to pack up the dogs and some belongings and he did a pretty good job of it. My son and his new bride met him at my home to helped him pack up (my area had never been evacuated before), and drive one of the cars out.

It was a long week, and I had my lap top, but they only have dial up, and truthfully I didn't have time to even plug it in to see how it would work. I think I need to sleep for a couple days, lol.

We were very lucky, no one in my family lost a home, and only us and my brother-in-law's family (who live across the street) were evacuated. Thankfully we never had to move my father-in-law and all his equipment. He's pretty fragile right now. I did manage to get him up to the VA on Wednesday for his Chemo (which is palliative only, but seems to be helping some), the roads were all open, but it was a long day.

I haven't had much sleep, watching the news for fire reports, the reverse 911 calls are coming too late to some community's. Alpine seems to be safe, and my area (Spring Valley) is fine now so we came back late last night. It will take days to put everything back.

The fires are still going, but the main danger seems to be over, at least for my family.

Nanners, glad you weren't affected.

My son did get married 2 weeks ago, it was a beautiful wedding, very touching.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

Oh I forgot to mention, I have one casualty of the Santa Ana winds anyway (which were a big contributor to these fires). My much loved Jacaranda tree in my back yard which I have been nurturing for 4 years, blew over on Sunday evening (the winds had gusted up to 70 mph). My husband and I couldn't budge it to try and stand it back up, it's way too big now, and it was too windy to try to stand it back up anyway. So it's been lying on my fence for 5 days, so is probably a gonner. Thankfully it fell away from my house and my neighbors house and landed on my back fence which is quite sturdy.

I'll have to borrow a chain saw from my father-in-law. I loved that tree, it had the most beautiful purple blossoms twice a year, and even when they fell off the tree, they created a beautiful purple blanket on the lawn.

I know, in the face of all the losses in San Diego it seems selfish to mourn my tree, but I can't help it, I've had it since it was 12" high. My yard and garden are my favorite parts of my home. I've started other trees from it's pods that are planted in all my families back yards. Maybe I can salvage some of it's pods and try again but starting these pods is very hit and miss, I may get 1 or 2 trees from 10 or 20 pods.

Hey Judy what part of Spring Valley were you in? My sister in law lives in the Paradise Hills area. I was in Chula Vista but wasn't in the part that had to be evacuated. I am closer to the coast. This was a really scary time for San Diego. Seemed as if almost everywhere in San Diego was effected. I knew when the high Santa Ana winds were on the way, we were going to have a fire somewhere, because we have been so dry. Glad to hear you and your family are okay. Sorry about the tree.

The Pointe is on the back side of my hill. You know where the fountain is? The houses where the firemen made a stand is across Jamacha Blvd. from my hill. All those acres that burned are where I used to ride my horse. I knew they would burn eventually, they were so thick with underbrush, glad I wasn't out there on a horse ;0)

I was in Alpine at the time, it was safe there, but now there's a danger that it may be hit after all. Hopefully the low winds and moisture in the air will help. The Witch fire's heading south to Alpine and the Harris fire's heading north to Alpine. Keeping an eye on both in case we have to go back up and evacuate them.

Glad you didn't have to evacuate, and that your family is okay.

Judy, I know how you feel. During the ice storm, early this year, my beautiful redbud came down. The weight of the ice was too much for it.
I miss those lovely blossoms so much, and it's left a yawning great hole in my front garden.
