Well the new specialist is thorough. It seems I could have one of three things. My crohn's could be flaring in several places, I could have
chronic pancreatitis. He's also concerned I might have a stomach tumor. A varied selection, and one that blew me away.
He's concerned with the amount of mid abdomen pain & tenderness, also the high gastrin levels. So I now have to go through a batch of
tests. First of all, bloods & stool samples to see the amount of fats passed. A MRCP with secretin, this is to watch the function of my pancreas.
Then a SBFT again!! and finally colonoscopy & gastroscopy. All this to be done as soon as appointments are available.
I really don't know how I feel about all of this. I did tell him he was scaring me a bit, and he said, he was more or less thinking out loud as to
what my problem was. He said at the end of the day it could be my crohn's, but it would be in my best interest to test for other things.
Well I know I wanted to get to the bottom of things, but this has thrown me through a loop.... Happy Halloween.....

Sorry to hear it Vicky, but at least you have a doctor that wants to get to the bottom of it. Hopefully he'll just be ruling things out and at then you'll know.

I'm having upper abdominal pains also, I'm having some sort of special MRI (I think it's also the MRCP) on Tuesday and also a CT scan. It's just never ending.

The MRI is to check my liver and pancrease and the ducts better, the CT scan without contrast is to check for kidney stones.

Aw Judy, I'm so sorry to hear you are having problems. I know how much you were hoping this last
surgery would do the trick. A MRCP does check for liver, kidney and pancreatic function. All I've been
told is expect to be there several hours. They hook you up to an IV and then watch the med go through.
You've got yours on Tuesday, the first available they could give me was Dec 5th, unless they call with
a cancellation. I would really like all this testing done before Christmas.
I have to confess, I read up about chronic pancreatitis, and it's scared me a bit, and this all due to 6mp.
It's weird how it can effect some but not all. Hope fully the two acute attacks I had didn't scar it up too much.
Well sweetie, I wish you luck for Tuesday, but I'll probably talk to you again before then. Take care.

so sorry you are going through this. what does chronic pancreatitis do to you? do you have to stop meds?

I hope it is not to serious, sometimes I think Dr's should keep thinking to themselves and not tell us unless they are very sure.

Karen, the list is quite lengthy as to what chronic pancreatitis does or can do. I had to google it to find out for myself.
unfortunately like we all know we end up scaring ourselves. It can be quite unpleasant!
As far as meds go, I was only taking prednisone as I've had bad reaction to most of the usual meds like 6mp, imuran, remicade,
that I cant take them, nor does he want me to try humira. He even wants me off pred for awhile, because it;s messing with my
bones. I think he wants to rule out other possibilities, as he says things are not adding up, but he also said we could go full circle
back to crohn's, then we discuss where to go from there. He's also concerned that I'm not absorbing nutrients as I should be, that
could be down to short bowel syndrome. I guess I have a couple of months of testing. I really hope he can at least make me feel
a little better.

Gail, thanks for your good wishes, I really could do with them right now.LOL

Hats off to your dr.....the thing I detest the most in a dr. is when they just chalk everything up to your crohns, like nothing else could possibly be wrong with you. Yes, the tests are annoying and a pain to go and get done, but better to have all the bases covered. Let us know what you find out!

Chroniemom, you have a point. I guess we all tend to think it has to be crohn's playing up. WE do think like that as well as the
doctors. I"ll keep you posted... Thanks.
